Pay per minute? - gw

Posted: Mar 8th, 2019 - 7:42 pm

I'm asking out of curiosity:  Has anybody here ever worked at a transcription job that pays by the minute of audio?  If so, what were you paid per minute and how much did that result in you earning per hour?

Also, do the companies who pay in this manner round up to the nearest minute... so 30-second or 90-second dictations get paid as 1 and 2 minutes?  Or do they get paid as 0.5 and 1.5 minutes, respectively?

This pay format seems to becoming more and more common, so it is probably a good idea to get a mental handle on how this pay structure works out financially in comparion to the cents-per-line format we have gotten used to.
