There are different ways to setup a virtual desktop. Even if someone went into the computer settings and wrote down the used space on C: before and after install you still wouldn't get a complete picture. This is because a VDI can be spread across multiple different files, which will grow and shrink or be deleted depending on the situation.

It's like asking someone how much space Word takes up. There's the space for the software itself, which you could note immediately after install. Then there's the config files and all the document files which change size and grow as you use Word.

I would guess the 50 GB claim is the max size of the install over time. They probably want you to have 50 GB free, even though the install itself will likely never use that much space. I could be wrong...
