Epic vs EPIC - Dedos Huesudos

Posted: Jun 12th, 2018 - 11:07 am In Reply to: Epic - My experience

I'm coming in late to this thread, but there is a correction needed on the use of "Epic" vs "EPIC."

When our hospital transitioned to Epic it was stressed to us in our training that we use the term "Epic," which is the name of both the company and the medical records software it sells. (https://www.epic.com/)

Yes, "EPIC" is an acronym for Electronic Privacy Information Center, but it is not the medical records system and has an entirely different focus. "EPIC" is, in their own words, "...a public interest research center in Washington, DC. EPIC was established in 1994 to focus public attention on emerging privacy and civil liberties issues and to protect privacy, freedom of expression, and democratic values in the information age."
