If you can contact places like credit card companies, utilities, banks where you have loans, etc. some might be willing to let you change the due dates for your payments. We did that moving from being paid on the 1st and 15th to every two weeks. Starting in the middle of the month rather than the beginning might also soften the blow a bit, but be sure to communicate with the people you pay regularly!
