Posted: Feb 27, 2011

Under the eye exam the doc clearly says "circus" senilis.  Is there such a thing?

I thought I definitely had the answer with my arcus answer and then I googled the circus senilis and lo and behold, this has been discussed HERE before! http://forum.mtstars.com/279115.html Maybe your doc DID say circus?!?!?!

Thanks! - MSmt

Wish I could find some sort of reference or this doc wouldn't make up his own diagnoses. Grrrr!

One of the posts said that circus senilis was referenced their Stedman's Ophthalmology, but I don't have that particular book. I looked in my Stedman's Medical Speller but it was not in there.

Arcus senilis

- gray band of opacity in the periphery of the cornea which is composed of lipid deposits

If seen before 40 yrs old, it may indicate type 2 hyperlipidemia

It may in time form complete circle (circus senilis)

Thanks! My doc just said the same thing - and this helped a ton - nm
