status check - garfield

Posted: Jan 07, 2013

Just for you know what and giggles, I did a status check on my area in DocQManage.  I got a shcok when I saw that one of my accounts had 116 awaiting to be collected with 15 of those being late!  That would never have happened before outsourcing to India! and there are a couple of other accounts whose waiting for collections are up.  I have goggling about MT and India and lo and behold, the Indians are not very happy either.  They're complaining about their low pay also!  Another thing to keep an eye on is that this year 2013 may be the end of political stability in India and may tank late in 2013 or early 2014.  Just keep an eye on the news and just know that while we may be bitter about their taking our work, they're bitter also because they've been sold a bunch of lies about this job and it's twice as hard there.

How is this job "twice as hard" over there - whatever

The job is the job... They have the same internet, the same equipment, the same program... They are just not held to OUR STANDARDS, thereby making it A LOT EASIER. Shoot, if I were only held to 70% accuracy, I could bust out a lotta work! They are just bitter because they want to make what we make at their low cost of living.

Oh yea... they get all the EASY dictators also! They should have to type some of the garbage I get at 99% accuracy!

Please state how it is "harder"? no message - bshel

I didnt state it was harder... garfield did - whatever

You should try to post under the person whom you are asking. Makes it easier to follow.

how is this job - garfield

According to what I read, they make only 1-2 cents a line and work 12 to 14 hours a day. However, they have no child labor laws like they do here in the States, so it may be young people, not actual children but young enough that wouldn't be allowed to work here in the US are working there. Their economy while cheaper than ours, for them is just as expensive as ours. Many of the top whatever you want to call them, pundits are already advising Indian transcriptionists to get out. The promises they got about getting rich, having their own homes, etc, etc are just that promises that are empty and they are finding out that the MTSOs are just what we think they are.

whatever... they get foot massages and parties, and - free lunch, and transportation, and

free health care for them and their families. Boo Flippin Hoo.
and free gym memberships! - Hope they fall off their Stairmasters. n/m

India has national health insurance as do most industrialized countries. That is one of the reasons for U.S. workers not being as competitive and why so many of our jobs have gone overseas.
We do have national health insurance - Obamacare

It is going to cost more. It is the insurance companies that cause the problem. I know, I work on insurance forms part time.

Do the clients know that India is only held to 70% - accuracy

when they agree to have their work off-shored?

Dont u realize that all the Indian dictations - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
may be 70% accuracy but I bet dollars to donuts, none of them go without being double checked in one form or another..it is still cheaper to have them do the initial and send it through one of us or QA, whichever is availabe.. Dont you get those jobs that usually arent formatted correctly and occasionally come through formatted correctly and almost right? I swear at times I am fixing someones work, there are so many difference on how "well" ASR performs..

Woo HOooooooo. Love it.... - noneya

That made me smile. I wanna tell you, talk about burning bridges, only not us to them but the other way around, right? Think about the possibilities. If their government goes through major changes we may be able to start a change in the right direction!!!! Yeah!

My fear - sm

I would love to have the work to come back to the US and would love to have a little bit more job security, but I'm afraid of the scumbaggery of the suits. If work came back to the US, they would have to hire more US MTs, therefore paying more US MT wages. This would significantly dent their coffers and would you think that any of the suits would take a pay/bonus hit? Do you think any of the hospitals would take kindly to a rate hike? What I'm afraid of is that our rates will be lowered even more and we will be expected to push out more work for less.

India will be in the same boat we're in now, when - all THEIR work goes to CHINA. n/m

Not likely - old and burned out

China's economy is growing by 15% a year according to reports. Wages are lower in India.

Not to mention they have to speak/understand English - anon

This isn't exactly a job that anyone can do, contrary to popular belief.

There are limited low wage locations where they could successfully find large numbers of at least semi-intelligent fluent English speakers.

IC Status?
Mar 26, 2014

What "really" happened to IC status?  How did we turn into employees without benfits?  I recall when IC was REALLY IC.  I took a break and things had changed pretty drastically!  We now are required to basically do "shift work," which I understand to a point, but it sure isn't the way it was!!  I recall getting paid more because we did not get benefits, more for fast speakers and ESL--what happened to that?  I personally just dropped out for awhile, and a new ...

Questions About IC Status
Jan 21, 2010

I've worked for an MTSO for about nine years.  Work is scarce, and I need to find another part-time job or maybe just leave and work full time.  I don't know anything about IC.  I see things like you are required to do your own taxes and can work the flexibility of what you want as long as you get the TAT.  I know insurance is not covered in these positions.  But how do you handle time off for vacations or personal days?  Do you go on vacation and then com ...

I have 2 accounts, who only dictate once a month. I work for someone who has lost a lot of their work, and so I can't count on them as before. I have 1 other account where I could work until my fingers fall off, but I am concerned about IC status. If I keep these small accounts and maximize working for the the larger one, would I still be considered an IC? How many clients do you need in order to maintain IC status?
