job title - wondering

Posted: Nov 16, 2014

Does anyone here (at M*Modal) have the title "master medical editor transcriptionist" and get paid accordingly or do something different that a regular MT or medical editor?

Do you mean an MME aka SHDA? - sm

An MME (master medical editor), or SHDA (senior health documentation analyst) as they are known now, is what used to be the QA position. Years ago they decided to move QA from hourly to per line and combined the job with editing/transcription. As for pay, they get pretty much the same for transcribing and editing (pay is all over the place with this company regardless of position). When QAing, the pay is 4 cpl when doing a full review, 3 cpl if just filling in blanks. Personally, I got a 5% raise when moving to MME/SHDA and my pay is now 8/4.9/4/3 (straight/edit/full QA/blanks). Truthfully, even with the 5% raise, my paycheck did not increase when moving to SHDA.

You also only get a percentage of lines at - that rate

In other words, if you QA a document of 100 lines, you don't get 4 cpl for all 100 lines, it's something like 60% or 60 lines. That's not the exact percentage, but something like that (I no longer work there). It's ridiculous.

That's incorrect - JustMe

If you do a full QA of a 100-line report you make $4.00 for that report. The only time you get a percentage calculated is when they're figuring out your average lines per hour for benefit rate. You ALWAYS get paid for all lines you transcribe or QA.

Not true - sm

That's only when they figure your lph. You get paid for 100% of the report that comes to you. I don't understand why this rumor pops up occasionally and every time it's proven false. I verify my lines versus pay. Everything is correct.

Jul 02, 2012

Seriously, I see a lot of words in there such as: Specialist Expertise Skills Knowledge Critical information Accuracy and completeness Well educated/well trained Oh...and this, "Healthcare documentation specialists are second only to physicians in the amount of content inputted directly into the EHR." Sounds like MTs are evolving into what is apparently a pretty important job with serious responsibilities. So why, why, WHY in the name of all that is good on Earth are we being paid ...

Doctor's Full Name And Title?
Dec 26, 2009

When you transcribe a doctor's name in the body of the report, do you always need to transcribe the doctor's full name and title, even if not dictated as such - for example, would you need to transcribe "Adam Adams, MD" even if just dictated as "Dr. Adams," and look up the full name and title? I'm always required to do so but can't find it in the BOS. I'm new so I don't know if this has been posted yet. Thanks. ...
