Pay rate - Rad MT - radmt

Posted: Jul 11, 2011

What a shock to wake up this morning and realize the almighty "Q" has just sent me hurling into bancruptcy!  My husband lost his $75,000/year job 3 months ago and just found another but only making $8.50/hour.  As we don't live beyond our means, we thought that would at least let us catch up on the major bills.  But now I'm going from $1.65 a report to $1.20 a report.  That's a MAJOR cut in pay ($1,000 to $3,000 PER MONTH).  This is devastating and I feel so betrayed.  It's everything I can do to sit here and make one more dime for this wicked, wicked company.

Yikes..not to be nosy..but a PAY cut of 1000 to 3000? - how many reports do you do??

[ In Reply To ..]
100 to 300 reports a day??
You were earning between 165 to 395 dollars per day?

Like I said...yikes!

Sorry - that was supposed to be $1,000-$2,000. - radmt

[ In Reply To ..]
Didn't realize the error until your reply but yes I do anywhere from 100 (on a bad day) to 300 reports a day.

wow..impressive...but still yikes...that is a pretty severe pay cut - and acute care is the wrong game, if RT makes that

100-300 Jobs Daily - Stella

[ In Reply To ..]
Wow, how do you do that? The account I'm on has very few short reports, fewer normals, and lots of MRIs, CT scans, etc. that average 2-4 minutes in length. No way I could do more than 100 per day!!!
100-300 jobs daily - kittykat
[ In Reply To ..]
I used to do that, too, utill I went to 2nd shift because days was running out of work all the time. I am sorry I went to 2nd. We have all the residents and big CT's and MRI's and special procedures. When our CCM posts the backlog with reports and minutes, the reports are all under 1 minute, but here on afternoons one time I had 13 jobs that were 6-7 minutes and get screwed big time. I am the one who complains when someone does part of a report with many blanks and it comes to me to fill in the blanks and finish the report. That person does not know their stuff. I can fill in the blanks 99% of the time. This sucks big time.
Lots of EKGs on my main account. - radmt

I mainly type Cardiology and my main account includes lots of EKGs every day, which are a sentence or two usually.

Sorry but don't feel your pain - Anon

RadMT - So if we give you an average of 200 jobs a day (you said 100-300 a day, so I'm going with 200 average) working 8-hour days, at your previous pay rate you were making $41.25 an hour.

Sorry, but that is just ludicrous.

I'm sorry anyone out there in the workforce has to be laid off, fired, or take a pay cut, but in some cases I can certainly see the employer's side of things.

If you were making that much before this pay cut, you should be thankful you got away with it for as long as you did.

IMO, you will still be making more-than-reasonable pay at the new pay rate - especially when so many MTs claim they aren't even making minimum wage.
pay scales - jrb
[ In Reply To ..]
It is crazy, look at the pay scale differences. Tier one gets 0.040 but Rad get 1.2 and Pathology gets 2.0. Now is Rad and Path making that per report or per line? either way, so much more money than a tier 1. That is just crazy. I have done both Rad and Path, guess I need to look back into doing them again.
Rad is per report - Rojo
[ In Reply To ..]
You're right, its still more than 0.04 per line as most rad reports are short. I didn't get hit so bad as I was getting only 1.25 per report anyway, so I lose 0.05 per report, with only 1 client assigned to me and averaging less than 300 reports even available and coming into my queue every week let alone every day, I haven't made enough money in a year. thank goodness my husband still has a good paying job, yet even his job is giving him less hours than just a couple years ago. :(

Whaaa? - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
If a 25% cut in pay per month means a decrease of between $1000 to $3000 a month, that means before the pay cut you were making between $4000 to $12000 a month. I find that more than a little hard to believe.

Not likely - just me

[ In Reply To ..]
I could be wrong but years ago MQ capped rad at 1.35 a report. One of the only ways to get that high of a production rate is if the account they are working on is still by C-phone and they can go in by dictator and get all the easy, short reports first. It is a very underhanded way to do business and even worse then cherry picking.

Pay rate - rad MT - kittykat

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, I know what you mean. I am tired of this mess. What a blow. I too do rad and I do not know what I am going to do. First they take the incentive away, then shift dif from afternoons, now this. I do not think the CCM's have any balls. I am assuming they used to be MT's at one time and I guess they decide to go with the flow and keep their jobs. Do they ever stick up for us? This is BS!

Totally agree - radmt

[ In Reply To ..]
The CCMs lost their balls a long time ago. Mine has never been an MT so not only does she have no clue what it's like, I'm quite sure she doesn't care. She could care less what we deal with in our personal lives. She's difficult to deal with to say the least. I for one have not beeg a very good employee today. I just don't give a you know what anymore. I'm seriously thinking about going on disability before they change my approved income at The Hartford, since I do have a medical condition that would probably qualify. Any suggestions on that?

Totally agree - kittykat

[ In Reply To ..]
I am also in a crappy mood. I guess you know they are moving all Rad to one place, like before, ha ha. I am forever running out of work and I asked if we would get more work, no answer yet. I am sick and tired now of using my PTO for extra pay, when my CCM is always on PTO. That sucks. I am raising all kinds of he** with e-mails today and hope I get fired, for whatever reason, I just got 100% audit, but they are free to find a reason. My unemployment income will be for the last year or so and not for the future and then I will find something else. This really sucks. I wish I could go on disability, but you cannot work during that time and I have to work.

OK, check into this for disability - Rojo

[ In Reply To ..]
Just to be clear, I have checked into this a little in my State of Michigan. I have a bulging disc, a symptomatic Tarlov cyst on S3 nerve root, neuroma in my left foot and Meniere's disease. Each of these individually are not enough to disable me, but I have made an appointment with my doctor to discuss him putting me on permanent disability. Check with your State DHS/welfare office. Some states offer interim disability money to people waiting to meet the 1 year no work requirement for federal SSDI. It is not something that is advertised, but it is worth checking into.

Not flamin' you, but I don't feel sorry for you either. - apparently you are still

out-earning the majority of us (working just as hard as you are) by ten-fold. Good luck.

Really!!! She's losing more than I have been able to make in a month. - somethings out of whack nm

I'm feeling a bit flamed nonetheless. - radmt

[ In Reply To ..]
I've been with this company for more than 10 years and transcribing for 20. I earned that rate of pay. Sorry that apparently you weren't earning as much - not my fault. Sounds as if you think MQ was justified in its actions. Keep siding with them and see where it gets you - screwed just like the rest of us.

I'm kinda feeling screwed; you're making a lot more than me tho I've been at - it longer and here longer nm

1.20 a report is good for RAD trans - SM

[ In Reply To ..]
IF you look around at what RAD trans are getting paid it is between 75 cents a report to 1 dollar!!!

1.20 a report - kittykat

[ In Reply To ..]
I have never seen a rad report at 75 cents. The ones I have seen are at least 1.50. And when you get one long report after another, it is disheartening. You just plug along and hope you run into a few short ones to make it up. And yes, even after 20 years at this, I still have to look things up, when you have special procedures you have new catheters, instruments, drugs, etc.

Pay Rate-HELP!!
Jun 13, 2010

I've been out of the industry and on unemployment for over a year, and have just been contacted by a previous employer to work for them again.  The catch?  I was very well paid by this company and I will be discussing my rate of pay tomorrow with the payroll manager.  I am gunshy about asking for too much money because I now know what slim pickings it is out there.  Should I just jump in and ask for the same rate as before?  I was paid by the page, does anyone ...

VR Pay Rate
Oct 11, 2011

I recently read a job posting that required 150 lph for straight type and 225 for VR - Does this make sense ?  These companies are using the excuse that we should be able to produce "twice as many lines" with VR - thus - HALF the pay.  If that is truly the case, then why in the world would the line requirement not reflect that as well.  Obviously, these companies know VR is not nearly as productive for the MT as they claim; however, I would venture to guess with the MT making hal ...

Going Rate For IC?
Jan 05, 2012

After nearly a decade of working with Webmedx, I like many others am looking for extra work to supplement what I will be losing with Nuance.  I have a chance to pick up some part-time IC work, but I have no idea what a good acute care IC rate is.  Ten years ago, I charged $0.12/line.  Is this still an okay rate?  More?  Less?  I don't want to ask for too much and have them laugh at me, but I also don't want to sell myself short. Thanks for any advice! ...

Rate Of Pay
Jan 08, 2012

Wow, I'm an independent contractor and was looking at the job seekers board to maybe take on another part time job.  The rate of pay is still 7 to 8 cents per line??  This seems a bit ridiciulous.  I mean 10 years ago when I started with an online company, this is the rate of pay they started you out at!  I work for local doctors and charge starting out no less than 11 cents per line, especially as an independent contractor where you get no benefits or paid time off. &nb ...

VR Pay Rate?
Apr 11, 2012

Just wondering what to expect.  My company is moving some docs to VR and I have heard that the pay will be a straight line rate.  I worked very briefly for a company who paid one rate for reading the report and another rate when corrections had to be made.  Just hoping to get some input on how many people out there are paid just a flat rate.  Can you make any money doing this or do you find you have to work longer hours for less money?  Is there anyone out there who is h ...

Pay Rate
May 09, 2015

If QC is over 10%, then the pay is 7/3.5 pennies a line. If it's that amount and the speed is just about 100 lines or a little over that an hour, I think that would amount to below minimum wage, wouldn't it? So I think the 7/3.5 pennies a line pay rate automatically is equivalent to MUP--unless the MT is very speedy. 7/3.5 pennies a line pay rate is pretty ridiculous. However, I don't understand a couple of commenters here who have complained about the pay scale overall being ...

Rate Decrease
Nov 24, 2009

During this transition time I was trying to decide between IC status and employee status.  I was doing this because I thought that being an IC would save my 1/2 cpl decrease that you get with employee status.  However, in my packet, my rate is now 9 cpl, down the 1/2 cpl as mentioned, but the choices were still FT, PT or IC.  That makes me wonder if we all got cut down to 9 cpl and even if I would have decided to go with IC status, my rate would still have been cut.  Did any ...

PT Line Rate Cut
Nov 25, 2009

I  know a lot of us wonder what the reason is for PT status MTs to lose 1/2 cpl.  We have been told that it is because at some point we could possibly switch to FT.  If our bank, where we have our checking and savings accounts would send us a letter telling us that starting next month we would have to start paying $200 per month for our house payment, even though we do not own a house, but this was just in case some day we might, I think we would all tell that bank they were nuts ...
