3M resequencing Principal Diagnosis - Jan

Posted: Mar 27, 2011

Does anyone have a good understanding/explanation of 3M software resequencing the principal procedure on certain operations?  Hysterectomies were one, has anyone else experienced this?  Do you change it back?

I don't use 3M software. - Unable to help

Wish I could help, but I don't use 3M. Didn't want you to think you were being ignored.

Trying to find someone who uses 3M . . . - Coder

I know someone who uses 3M and will ask her to come see if she can help you.

You might also try asking the 3M support line. We no longer use 3M, but they used to have good support.

Without knowing what was resequenced, it's hard for me to know what you are seeing. However, if 3M is resequencing, it is telling you that it thinks something is wrong with your sequencing. You're the one making the decisions, though, not the software. Figure out why it thinks you're wrong. If you have reviewed the guidelines and you're still certain that you are correct, then I think you would need to change it back. You are ultimately responsible.

Figuring out why it thinks you are incorrect is the issue, and that is what 3M support might be able to explain.

Thanks for trying to help. It is 3M. I have not sequenced wrong. It is a whole issue with the way they changed the IP procedure code sequencing by which one drives the DRG, not going by what coders do, or most extensive procedure, but numerically. It's messing up core measures. I was just trying to put a feeler out there to see how they explained it to others to compare.
