s/l LD3 laceration? - orthohelp

Posted: Sep 19, 2013

IMPRESSION: LD3 laceration.

Context - Patient had a middle finger laceration.

I don't know what LD3 means and it isn't repeated or expanded anywhere in the report for me to know what the doctor is talking about. I am having a hard time verifying what this is and wanted a better understanding if it is in fact LD3. Thank you for your help!

how about EDC instead of LD3 - meaning exensor digitorum communis

Look up all the tendons/anatomy of a finger; maybe if you have a Stedman's book or online and see if any of the tendons match or sound like LD3. EDC just comes to mind as it sounds closest to your s/l. There is EDM, ECU, etc.

I thought about that and... - orthohelp

went back to look at the report to see if there's any mention about extensor digitorum. My initial thought was extensor digitorum longus, but I know that's for the foot, so that can't be it. He clearly said what sounds like L and that's throwing me off. I don't know if there's another abbreviation in the hand that goes with "LD". Zone classifications came to mind as well - thought maybe he meant zone III for the 3, but I'm really not certain. I might have to flag this one. Thank you for the help!

There are lumbricals and maybe he is saying - LD3 for lumbrical digit 3

But that's just a guess on my end. It's always nerve racking to not get something. I really like to exhaust all attempts. Maybe you will have to flag this one :-)
That sounds a lot more probable! - orthohelp

I had nothing, lol. I flagged it, but I'll keep an eye on this report when it comes back from QA and make notes. I forgot about the lumbricals! I've made a mental sticky note about this one :) Thanks again!
You're welcome!! Wish I could have helped more though! - anon

Hand Laceration
Jul 27, 2011

Here's the text:  Examination of the right hand reveals a long jagged laceration extending from the palmar surface into the web space.  It is roughly 4.5 cm in length.  It is full thickness and when the fingers are spread apart, the volar surface of the 1st phalange can be visualized through the wound.  Volar?  I'm not sure if that's what I'm hearing...it sounds like it starts with a b, like bowler or buller.  I know what volar is, but does it fi ...
