preoped or preopped??? sm - MTsella

Posted: Jan 05, 2010

Dictator says:  The patient was preoped/preopped in the holding area and then taken to the operating room where she was sterilely prepped and draped in the usual fashion.

This is a verbatim account.  So, is it preoped or preopped, or even preop'd???

Help greatly appreciated.

Preop...sm - gyb

Since preop is a shortened version of preoperative/preoperated, I would use preop'd as the apostrophe serves to note that there are missing letters. Preoped and preopped are not really legitimate terms. Neither is preop'd, for that matter, but that's the way I have always done it and for the reasons stated. :)

preop'd - anon

I would put preop'd until further notice. That's the way I handled DC'd on a verbatim account until I was told otherwise.

Preopped? Pre-opped? Pre-op'd?

My company doesn't require verbatim, so I'm inclined to change this to preoperatively evaluated, but doc says "the patient was seen after being pre-opped."  If I were to not change this, how would it be typed?  Thanks for any and all suggestions! ...
