is it peaked or pekid? - Becky

Posted: Feb 17, 2010

The doctor spells the word out as "the patient appears a little bit PEKID today on exam".  Is this the correct spelling?  I always thought it was peaked.  TIA

definitely "pekid". Just an old southern word I've heard since I was a boy in Alabama & Georgia. I haven't heard it used in many years though. My guestimated definition is: Not well; slightly ill.

Peaked - pekid gives it a different pronunciation

peaked = gives it the long 'e' sound  (as in tree)

pekid  = gives it the short 'e' sound  (as in deck)
