A box cutter reamer was initially used to enter the femoral canal. (This is an THA.)
I cannot verify that a box cutter reamer exists.

Care must be taken to lateralize the canal. With the diminished exposure of MIS techniques, it is relatively easy to rasp and ream in varus. Box cutters, trochanteric reamer, and careful observation of rasp placement can help avoid this problem.
