s/l "phocae" - cj

I am thinking "foci"...as in gallstones.

thx - why was that so hard to research? - ce

[ In Reply To ..]
I made it hard on myself w/spelling to begin with, but why can't I find an easy reference for focus/foci? I had to look for images and include the word gallbladder for it to come up with anything, and even my med dictionary doesn't say anything about gallstones specifically. Weird.

Thank you!

by definition.... - Radiologist use it a lot

it's a point at which rays (light, sound, heat) converge.

When you are doing speciality work like radiology, pathology, you need to have some reference materials specifically for that speciality. For instance one of my references states "focus" pl (foci) as well as referring to focal calcifications (ie: gallstones). You won't find that kind of detail in your medical dictionary.

It seems to me explaining how to use that "G" word seems to be a stumbling block to helping someone research.

I didn't say anything about a "G" word.

... but when I recently offered someone a really good research tip, my post was removed and I got scolded.

Go figure.
Apparently they cannot be free-standing - or in a post. LOL

I know for a fact that you cannot answer a post with Google it, look it up, or ask your mother. You might get away with putting a hint in a post that has the answer but if someone took offense and reported it, it could go. Be happy yours just got removed. I was banned with a reminder that you either post the answer or you don't.

So now I answer when the mood hits me and might either edumikate with the answer or explain how I found it without recommending someone look it up or buy a book.

I saw the post after the OP's questions had been answered.

I offered a tip on how to substantiate the answer when the OP asked how to substantiate the answer.
As an old-timer - sm

I think it would be doing someone a favor if we could tell them exactly how we found the answer. Proper googling is a science in itself and in other cases sometimes pointing out why anatomy would make it one answer rather than another would help them understand how to find their own answers. After all, we may not always be here to answer a question. Teach them to fish and all that.
I agree... - see message

It's like giving someone the book, but not letting them use the library.
