PERRLA 3 2. Grips are .... - themom

Posted: Feb 03, 2011

I have a dictator, in the neuro section of her PE saying "PERRLA 3 2.  Grips are strong and equal bilaterally."  She is saying 3 2, not thirty-two.  TL and QA have been unable to help, so I though I would throw this one out to you.  Has anyone heard of this and if they have what in the heck does it pertain to.  I've been an MLS for over 20 years and there are still "firsts."

Just taking a shot here...I'm not sure but, maybe doc is referring to mm, for example, 3 mm for bright light and 2 for darkness. I'm just taking a guess. I've never heard that either. Doctors have a tendency to leave out pertinent info. : )

Find out what your PERRLA eye test grade is. PERRLA stands for "Pupils Equal Round Reactive to Light and Accommodation." This grade reveals how your pupils (the dark circle in the center of your eye) constrict or dilate in the light or dark, or when looking at something up close. A normal PERRLA eye test grade for an adult is between 2 to 4 mm in diameter in bright light, and between 4 to 8mm in darkness.

That just makes sense. Thanks. I would presume that is what she is meaning.
