PE - embolus v. embolism - Jenny NS

So I have an account that actually *wants* all dictated acronyms to be typed out (different, I know). Just wondering in the case of "PE" as in "no evidence of "PE" or "had a PE in the past" how can we be certain whether the dictator means pulmonary embolism or pulmonary embolus?

How do I tell the difference? I'm getting confused on -us and -ism. If a diagnosis dictated is "No evidence for pulmonary emboli" would it be the -us or -ism? ...

the mass appearing area on the chest x-ray is more likely "suclea" ? thanks! ...
