Iodoform or iodoform? - NYMT

Does anyone know for sure if iodoform (gauze) is a proper noun? When I Google it, I find one instance in which it is not capitalized, but can't find a registered trademark, which is what is usually use for surety, for the capitalized version anywhere.

iodoform - just a chemical name - no caps required

Many manufacturers make iodoform gauze, but this is like saying "sterile gauze", which lots of companies make also.
