If VR didn't make these kinds of errors, you wouldn't have a job. I just laugh at all the crazy things that come through our VR (at one point the word "penis" was making it into every other report!). :)

The word "eluting" and the phrase "drug-eluting stent" were not in the speech engine. Once you make the correction it's up to the people at the hospital to have the speech engine analyze the documents to improve the accuracy of them. If they don't, things will never improve.

When I worked for another service last year, that's what they did and their speech engine did an excellent job at handling ESL dictors.

I just have a zillion and a half shortcuts now. A bunch for ASR fixes and others for straight typing. Im not sure I know how to think in regular words anymore..LOL

I know we are to drop the zero after a decimal when doing lab values, i.e. "hemoglobin was seven point zero" is just written as "hemoglobin was 7", but do you drop the zero after sizes, i.e. "Taxus three point O by twelve mm drug-eluting stent" - is that written 3.0 x 12-mm or 3 x 12-mm? I never can get this straight...any input would be helpful. Thank you!!! :) ...

A biopsy was taken of the bladder, and this failed to reveal any evidence of malignancy, only a fibromuscular tissue was noted. There was an inability to do a transurethral or s/l transvesicular stent, and this did require a percutaneous nephrostomy for that process. TIA ...

I've been dinged on QA for typing a cardiac stent as "2.0 x 18 mm"; the note says "This should be 2 x 18 mm--drop the .0 if it's an even-numbered stent". This feels wrong, especially since the manufacturer's list shows it as "2.0". I'm on a new job and they're claiming to follow BOS, but they only have a copy of the 2nd Ed.
