Tablet advice, - please

Posted: Feb 16, 2015

I'm thinking of getting an Android tablet to use mostly at home, in what is laughingly called my leisure time.  I don't know much about how to set it up or install a wireless router.  Is it a very complicated process to set up and is there a steep learning curve to use it?  I don't want to spend any money till I know what's involved.

Any help is appreciated!

I have had 2 Android tablets and I now have a Kindle Fire. VERY easy to "set up." If you have a wireless router, you just search for it on the tablet, put in your password and you are good to go. As far as Facebook, and other applications, once you get your connection established, then you just go to the Google "store" and get and download whatever applications you want on your tablet.

That sounds pretty easy. I guess the main thing will be buying a router, or having one installed by my internet provider.

Many thanks for your help.

I recently bought a refurbished router on Amazon for 16 dollars, new they are about 40 dollars. I haven't had any issues with it.
Yes, the tablets - are EZ to set up...

If you are wireless now, i.e. laptop, you may already have the router. I also have the Amazon Fire...only about 79 bucks or maybe less if they are having a sale and I use it all the time. It makes shopping from Amazon easy (good thing?), and I think works very well for such a low cost device.

Forgive my ignorance, but I was wondering if anyone uses a tablet for transcription?  I am assuming you would need an external keyboard, but I am not familiar enough with the newest technology.  Are there headphone jacks and USB ports like laptops?   I want to be more portable.  Or is a laptop my only option?  Thank you. ...
