Nightly/at bedtime - sm

Posted: Mar 10, 2015

Crap, I missed one.  I think it is truly a set up situation.  Doc dictated nightly, SR changed it to at bedtime.  I usually catch and change this back to what the Dr. dictates, but missed this one.  If SR would quit trying to "think" I would appreciate it. Grrrr.

To me it's just rediculous that it's even an error when it means the same thing!! - MS

except that it doesn't mean the same thing - sm

Nightly would indicate taken each night and really indicates frequently more than an exact time of day, only referring to PM hours but not specific.

At bedtime would mean just that - at bedtime. May be nightly (every day) or not. May be any time of day on the clock face, but is specific to taken as one goes to bed.

Nightly does not equal at bedtime; they are not interchangeable.

Thanks for ejubacatin' me on that. - MS

that should be...ends with "ly." - MS

I don't know why mtstars typed "&" when I typed "ly." They must need a spelling lesson.
Don't sweat it-better imperfect (who isn't)? - than snarky, I always say ;-)

If not interchangeable then why does it say - on my client specs to

referring to not-to-be-used "q.h.s." to change q.h.s. to EITHER nightly or bedtime. ???? It IS the same thing that's why.

Just because it's in client specs doesn't make it accurate. There's a lot of moronic nonsense in the client specs that I deal with day in and day out. Call a pharmacist. Ask if take at bedtime and take in the evening mean the same thing.
Fair enough. I do agree not everything in client specs - makes sense - but of the

MANY different accounts I have had, they have all said to replace q.h.s. (which is on the dangerous abbrev. list) with EITHER nightly or at bedtime.

So, if I concede that q.h.s. is not interchangeable, what do you transcribe when a dictator says "q.h.s." or VR puts that (which it does a lot even if the dictator specifically SAYS "every night" or "at bedtime" ? I have my expander change q.h.s. to "at bedtime."

While I don't give a HOOT what Nuance wants (really) I care more about typing the right thing so it's correct for the patient.
For q.h.s., I type at bedtime, but - Poster from above

if a doctor says nightly, I type nightly.

Then how come I (not the poster) was told by my trainers way back when... - No consistency across the board per usual

[ In Reply To ..]
...that they ARE interchangeable and it was my preference as I transcribed? I'm on the previous poster's side!--aint no consistency in this here place (big surprise--NOT).

heygenius - seriously

you're a transcriptionist, right? if that's true then you realize most doctors are speaking as fast as possible to get their dictation out of the way as it is the bane of their existence. so when they say nightly, at bedtime, every night, YES in their brilliant minds it means exactly the same thing, EXACTLY. they don't have time to look at our company's "rules" and say the exactly correct thing according to our SPECIFICS. geez, they're mostly just happy to get a report on the chart on time. PEOPLE, IT'S NOT THE DOCTORS WHO MAKE THESE STUPID RULES. it's the PEOPLE WHO WANT TO TAKE YOUR PAYCHECK. wake up. your errors are making them rich.

VR has made thi s mistake for YEARS! - sm

I have brought this particular VR "glitch" to my TSM's attention at least 3 times in the past few years, and nothing has been done about it. It pisses me off that it's okay with them that their precious voice wreck makes a boo-boo, but if we lowly MTs don't fix it every single time, it's "off with her head!!"

I hate this place so much!
