Discplinary actions? - Oops :(

Posted: Jul 02, 2012

Has anyone ever been disciplined at Nuance? I had one episode which I believe was a write-up (I had to reply to some email), and I'm pretty sure I'm about to get another one.

Getting fired wouldn't be the end of the world (this company is the worst), but I'd like to be mentally prepared if it's about to happen.

Does anyone know the discipline process?

Please help! - Oops :(

Over 100 views, and no responses? Has no one here had any problems with Nuance?

What problems are you having? s/mq - nuancemt

I've been with them 7 months. First time working on Escription. Hate this place and I am job hunting. The first few months, they were always emailing me about the header crap, especially the dates. I had to have 2 conference calls and reviews. Personally, I wish they WOULD fire me because I'm sick to death of this crap.

Thanks for your reply - Oops :(

My problems are mainly with the header as well. This is also my first time working with eScription. I've always done straight transcription and cannot get used to checking pre-filled information. So I sometimes get the headers wrong, choose the wrong account, etc. These are major errors, and even though my percentage is 98+, I've been told that it isn't good enough, with these errors occurring.

I honestly would not mind being fired, except that it would be horribly embarrassing to tell my husband. We would be okay financially until I found another job, but it would be so demoralizing. I'd just feel like a failure. Actually, I already do feel like a failure with this company.
This company is NOT worth worrying about. - nuancemt

I've already told my husband I hope I'm fired soon, but either way, I'm out of here. I have an interview tomorrow with another MT company for straight typing. If I don't get that job, then there are 2 unit clerk positions open in my area plus a few other jobs.

I, too, had never worked on this platform. I'm not new at being a MT, but this VR crap is for the birds. The pay is insulting as well.

For months I dwelled on this crap. Now I don't give a rat's behind. I don't look at that FIESA crap either. I log in, do my work, log out. Nothing more. I don't work extra either. Not worth my time.

Don't worry about this place. It's not worth it.

I don't think you will be fired - SB

I've worked with this company since it bought out the other company I worked for about a year ago. I had similar problems goofing up on the header info or cc's. My experience is that when they send me an email message, they are looking for a response that I understand the mistake I made and that I am taking specific corrective actions in the future to avoid such mistakes. I write back with a detailed action plan, apologize for the mistake, and that seems to satify.

Rather than they fire you, they might "demote" you to non-DSP for awhile. This has happened to me a couple of times. Then, after awhile, they let me "out of the dog house," and life goes on as before.

I agree. - nuancemt

They demoted me back to non-DSP for 3 months. Then I also was let out of the dog house. It's not worth worrying about. Just do your best. I don't think they'd fire you either.

Sigh of relief - Oops :(

Thank you both for your replies--I can handle going back to non-DSP. I just could not bear the thought of being let go.

I guess I'll be in the dog house for a while. In the meantime I'm looking for a new job.

Well, hope it works out for you. It's not the information you - were asking for, but to get a handle on

date, etc., requirements, you might try opening a print preview in each account. One of my accounts is a blank sheet of letterhead--not a single letter I don't enter shows up.

Another account that makes a very big deal about dates and account numbers (every single mistake generates an e-mail) has three double rows of prefilled data, including the date. If you don't enter it in the right (different from usual, of course), place, it doesn't fill. This view really helps you understand WHY the instructions vary and makes it easy to remember them. That account does save me from inserting date headers and dates when dictated because they're redundant--already done automatically.
Print Preview - Oops :(

Thanks for the info--this may be a dumb question, but how do I open a print preview within EditScript (if that is what you are using)?

On my account, we are not to type any info that is included in the header. My problem is that I don't check the header, and often the wrong thing is filled in automatically and needs changing.
Well, you do need to check the header - SB

It is one of the requirements for the job that you check the header info, and they are often incorrect.
uh, you have to check the header. - mt

Sucks but that is part of the job. Watch the patient name! Sometimes it is right, sometimes it says "UNKNOWN PERSON" and sometimes there is a name that is totally wrong.

That's something that may get you fired.
Agree--potential firing rationale - SB

Checking information - Oldie

I would not be surprised if they did discipline and/or terminate you. If you are repeatedly making the same error and not checking header information, patient information, work type, etc. are VERY IMPORTANT areas. They dictators these things in correctly so often it is unreal. Take that second or two and check that information every report. Will save your life and possibly another persons life.

Oops, no coffee and over-excited fingers this a.m. They dictate these things incorrectly..... Sorry for the typo and good luck to you.

Not wanting to drone on and on, but whether you stay with this company or go to another checking that information will be crucial to your success in this field.
To be clear, checking a "print preview" isn't a good way of - checking header information. SM

The header info we're responsible for all shows up on the work screen(s).

Doing a print preview in EditScript as I suggested (by hitting Alt+P, I think--my fingers are the experts on this) is just too slow for more than as a special check for some reason now and then, like to see if the auto numbering feature is leaving extra lines or something. Or, as I suggested, looking to see what info autopopulates into every report. The old reports we pull up don't show the whole report, so this is how we can see what the report users do.

As I said, it's a direct visual way to understand, and thus remember, a client's specs. That one account I mentioned requires us to put the date in the procedure date field on a subscreen because that's the one they've programmed to autopopulate in the report. Looking that up once and seeing what YOU typed "DATE: 07/03/2012" sitting there looking stupid below the autopop version in a different font is a good memory aid. :)

How Does Your Work Do Corrective Actions?
May 17, 2012

I recently went from working for a national at home transcription company to working in a local hospital typing radiology reports.  The manager here has never worked at home and has no experiencing being a manager.  She has only ever typed in a dermatologist's office.  She is very strict about mistakes and putting them in our file.  If you have something in prelim that you are questioning and she finds an error somewhere else in the report you get docked for that.  ...

Review Of Prohibited Actions By An Employer

A little "refresher course," from the EEOC.  I particularly like that last paragraph of this page.  Prohibited Employment Policies/Practices Under the laws enforced by EEOC, it is illegal to discriminate against someone (applicant or employee) because of that person's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information. It is also illegal to retaliate against a person because he or she complained about d ...
