Medworkshops/TNI Internship - irish

Posted: May 16, 2011

Has anyone interned with TNI through Medworkshops or another school? I am currently interning and am starting to doubt my decision to go through this school and company. Thanks so much for any input.

Unless they use the SUM program and have live instructors, I would avoid them.

Old Pro,
They do use the SUM program and do have live instructors, however, the intership has been kind of negative experience. We are told not to guess but not to leave blanks either, makes it kind of tough sometimes! I have had no positive feedback from my internship advisor, just negative. I have had questions go unanswered. I'm just frustrated.

How long have these folks been in business? I have been in the MT world for 40+ years and have never heard about them. One thing that sometimes helps students is to call a company you really dream of working for (this generally works better with small to mid-size MTSOs) and ask them if they hire grads from the XYZ School and if the grads are successful on the job. Did you check out this school before enrolling? How did you learn about it? In any event, I wish you good luck! I hope things straighten out for you. I have always said that if schools each what they should, internships would not be necessary.

I thought I had done my research but now I'm wishing I had done more. They have been around since 1996, according to their website anyhow, and had a good rating from the BBB. And they are located in my state, Washington, so I think I felt they were legit. I have gotten a slew of negative comments, one that basically threatened to call me in the middle of the night if my work needed to be corrected and a second stating that I could get an entire department fired if I continued transcribing the way I was. Geesh, I'm a student, I'm trying to learn! I used to work in employment law and some of the remarks I have gotten are pretty questionable, in my opinion. Thanks so much for listening, I really need to vent!

Irish, WHO exactly is making these threats? The school? Keep a log. It does not need to be anything fancy, just a notebook. Note the day, time, and a sentence or two about (a) who called and (b) what was said. You may need this for the Labor Department or other legal action.

My internship "mentor" is the one saying these thngs. No one has called me in the middle of the night, just a threat to do so if my work was not up to par. Yes, I do have a log. Guess we'll see what tomorrow brings!

Do you want a suggestion? Call the Department of Business Regulation as well as the State Attorney General's Fraud Division and ask them what they know about this school. Then call the State Department of Education and ask them what they think. Something is really off here somehow.

Old Pro - Thanks so much for the suggestions. I've got a few phonecalls on my to-do list today.

In general I find AHDI rather useless, but you might call them and see what they know about this school.

I'll do that as well. Well, I have received my work for the day. Better get to it. I've got an ESL physician, as I do most days, and it better be perfect or I may just receive more threatening emails.....

@Old Pro ; Question about Andrews School - Curious

[ In Reply To ..]

@Old Pro

I do not want to be argumentative; I just would like your opinion.  I have read your numerous posts championing Andrews School and repeatedly making statements like the one you made in response to “Irish” regarding Medworkshops/TNI Internship:  “…if schools teach what they should, internships would not be necessary.”

I was just wondering what you thoughts are regarding Andrews School partnering with TNI to use them for Internships?  As is evidenced by your love affair with Andrews, they can do no wrong, so why would they want their name associated with an Internship company?  If they are so great and their graduates are hired right out of school, why the need to partner with a company that treats its interns as badly as it appears to be treating “Irish?”

Maybe your 40+ years as an MT and MTSO are ancient history.  Maybe it is time to let prospective students do their own research and stop telling them that Andrews School walks on water.  Obviously, they don’t.

Of course, this is only my personal opinion.  It should not be taken personally, as that is not the intent.  I would, however, really appreciate reading your reaction.

“We use only the best education and training classes to staff our Company.

Internship is required.

The Medical Transcription Schools we currently use are Med Workshops and Andrews School.”

The Andrews School doesn't partner with that company - Not OldPro but See Message

This was talked about previously on another thread. Linda Andrews said that she has no relationship at all with any other company. She is not familiar with any company by the name of TNI.
It looks like that company is falsely using the Andrews School name - Also Curious

It appears that they are trying to make it look like they have some connection with The Andrews School, but when you open it, it's some other school entirely. To me that sounds like fraud. It would definitely be false advertising by these TNI people. Linda has already said that they have no connection with her school and she doesn't even know them. What benefit is TNI getting out of falsely advertising that they do? The Andrews School doesn't require an internship. These people at TNI probably need to get a call from the attorneys telling them to stop.
Look what else they did. They aren't just targeting The Andrews School - See message

They say, " Go to Med Workshops or M-Tec School to read about Medical Transcription Training." but you can't click on the M-Tec link. You can only go to their own link, which tells me that's the whole idea. Does anyone know what state they are located in? They should be reported to their state licensing board, at the very least.

Actually Andrews & M-Tech should probably thank them - Just sayin

Your information about Andrews is false. Obviously you should have done some basic research before making this post. As to my being ancient history, I hardly think so. I have been very active in the past in helping newbies and I will continue to do so. If you do not like my posts, there is a delete button on your computer. Please learn how to use it. Have a pleasant day.

I'm not familiar with the company you mentioned. I don't know anything about them. We aren't associated with them in any way. We don't use internships.

They may be trying to cash in on a school with a good reputation - Who knows?!
[ In Reply To ..]
We've been discussing this for days now. They claim that they are training partners with Andrews and The Andrews School says they are not.
Who knows? - Old Pro

It seems that some unscrupulous organization is trying to cash in on the reputation of a stellar organization. Simple as that. If the person who had originally posted the erroneous information had but taken the trouble to contact the Andrews School, someone there could have enlightened her. As it stands, the owner of the Andrews School has set the record straight. This issue has been settled. This should be a lesson to all about getting facts straight before making posts.
I tried contacting M-Tec as well - What a mess.

as they are also listed on TNI's training page, but I have not heard anything back. Andrew's name is still on TNI's training page as well. Hopefully they take that down soon!

Wow I really wish I had known about this board a year ago!  Yes the big conartist is still at and has just conned me out of a whole lot of money. After reading all the other complaints about this man I simply do not understand how they are still in business.  I made multiple phone calls today trying to figure out who to tur ...

Online Programs And Internship Hours?
Feb 27, 2011

One more question from me! HIM programs for an associate's degree usually require an internship which, of course, gives you experience in a hospital setting that will be valuable and possibly lead to a job. Do any of the online certificate programs do this? Did you have the opportunity while in school to do an internship that your school helped you set up? I am looking at Andrews and Career Step. Initially only Andrews but in reviewing more I have realized I can probably get a lot more fi ...

Caution To Students And New Grads - Scam Alert - Do MT Work (Internship) For Free
Mar 10, 2011

There is still another scam company out there offering to help "train" students and graduates. They will kindly let you do their real work, the work clients are paying them for. This is unacceptable and unethical. It will not look good on your resume because potential employers do not look kindly on this. If, for example, they find out that you did your 'internship' with XYZ Company, you will probably never know the reason why your resume was rejected or tossed.  Working for free ...
