trying to figure out jury duty time off - sm

I've been trying to figure out jury duty time off. I'm PT and see a lot of info for the FT folks and PT in certain states, not mine, but don't see anything other than that. Does that mean they won't release me for jury duty? I kind of thought companies were required to let you off for Jury duty. Where I live, I can only opt out of Jury duty if I can prove an actual hardship and I don't believe MQ disallowing me to go constitutes that. If anybody has experience in this, please let me know what my options are. I would rather get in trouble with MQ than with the local court system regarding the jury duty.

Some companies will pay you if you have to be off for jury duty. Some don't.

You will have to use PTO or be off with no pay, unfortunately, but they have to let you off for it.

Why do you guys always have to post negative. Your answer is wrong. MQ pays for jury duty, I am unsure, but I believe it to be up to 10 days. It does not come out of your PTO. STOP IT! I know this is true because I was on jury duty last year. Get a life!

as PT flex and was NOT paid by MQ. I think it varies by state and/or FT/PT status.

I did, however, get $30 a day from the court system. Whooppeee

That is true for ALL companies depending on the state you live and your employment status.

Jury duty policy is listed on MQCentral.
Full time employees get 10 days paid (not PTO) unless your CCM says it's a bad time, in which case you must file with the court for a change in time.

The policy for part timers is determined by the state. Only a handful qualify - which are listed in MQ Central.

I too am PT and I had jury duty 2 years ago and Medquist gave me the time off but I had to make it up. Would you belive I am getting called again in a couple of weeks? I am sure they will give you an excused period of time off but you will probably be required to make it up. I did not get picked last time I reported and hope it happens again this time as I do not want tons of hours to make up, especially if they expect you to make it up within the same week or pay period.

I had jury duty last year and was paid for the 3 days I was gone (same rate as for taking PTO). I did not have to use any PTO and did not have to make the time up. It could be different for part-timers though. There is a policy on MQ Central for it and I think for part-timers it depends on the state you live in. Your CCM could give you a letter to excuse you from jury duty if the work load is high.

Theyre required to release you for jury duty, cant fire - you, but are not required to PAY you.

Make sure you enter it as jury duty and not "excused no pay." Your CCM may tell you to enter it as the latter but in most if not all states, your employer is required to pay you. ...
