What are the duties of - a TSM?

Posted: Jun 08, 2013

I know they took some of the client duties away from the TSMs, but aren't they supposed to concentrate more on MTs? I hardly ever hear from mine, she doesn't answer the phone, very seldom returns calls or e-mails. Is there an assistant I am supposed to be asking? I am asking here because I can't get an answer from my region. TIA

Yes, they should be answering emails, phone calls from us etc., but mine doesn't either. Some are much better than others. I hear from mine in a group email when we are out of turn or there is an excess of work.

Mine - Mt

Sounds like my TSM also.

Overworked - old and burned out

Besides what you would assume to be their duties, they are expected to be available 24/7 as well as take their laptops and cell phones with them even when they are on vacation. How many individuals do you think are willing to put up with that crap? Do you really wonder why so many are unresponsive to the MT?

Mine is actually - pretty good

about most things, so I can't complain... she just seems sort of clueless and brainwashed when it comes to thinking somehow MM is such a great place to work.

well that's how middle management works. - comes with the job

not sure how much they make but much more than us, that's why so much is expected from them.

Oh come on! - old and burned out

What other occupation can you name that expects you to be on call 24/7 and to take your equipment with you on vacation? I know a woman who was asked to work on the way to her son's funeral.
paramedics, firefighters, nursing, xray tech, doctors????????? - most of the medical field does

what did you expect when you enter a profession that runs 24/7?????????
Seriously?! - Trampled underfoot

Do you seriously believe that you can get in touch with your doctor (Not the partner or someone covering for them) 24/7? Try it sometime and see how that works out for you!

The professions you mention all have time off when they're not "on call". Our managers literally are supposed to be "on call" 365 days a year. I wouldn't take their job for love nor money.

I hear from mine every day at least once a day - Former JLG MT

She also gives us personal emails I really like that.

Just curious, what does she do that makes - none

her special? I am serious, I would like to know. I have not been blessed with anyone in a supervisory position that does their job all that well. I hope there might be others out there that know how to take care of their employees but not lately my experience.

Mine has 132 MTs with 1,000 emails a day. - Too busy. No message below

Coding Duties
Jun 17, 2013

Done at other hospitals or facilities?  When you work at a hospital, are you expected to know/code all aspects of the patient care as in E/M, professional/physician, inpatient, emergency room, inpatient stays?  Do they separate the professional coding from the facility coding or are you responsible for both?  I saw an ad for a VA and it looks like you have to know how to do all of it.  How many are doing all of it? The coders I know sort of do one side or the other.  Jus ...

Unit Secretary Duties
Jul 19, 2012

Okay, AFAIK, a unit secretary is someone who works in a particular unit at a hospital, usually, and handles all sorts of duties. That much I know. But lately, some of the ads for this job seem to be adding on other duties that I didn't think a unit sec. had to know: CNA; monitor technician. So now you have to be trained as a CNA or take courses in telemetry to work as a unit secretary? ...

My Dog Adele Will Now Be Taking Over My MT Duties.
Mar 20, 2015

Since I missed the word A and a patient suffered a long protracted death because of this error I am now having my rescue dog, Adele, take over my MT position. It is time for her to earn her Kibbles, which incidently is more than what Mmodal pays. I just hope that ASR does not make her run away, which I would not blame her. Maybe Adele will have better luck, LOL. ...
