Pay for nonproduction work - leftbefore

Posted: Feb 29, 2012

Contacted HR regarding federal law which requires payment of all work done while on the clock, whether it is directly related to job description, i.e. sitting for 15 mins for out of work situation, reading e.mails, etc.  Still waiting for reply.

we do get paid for the 15 minutes - MTpocketbook

We are not required to read e-mails while working, we can do that after the shift. But, we should get paid to do the report look up because it takes so darn long to get in and then go through all of those reports.

why shouldn't we get paid - to look at emails?

According to fed law anything required, even reading e.mail that is work related, (tells us of OT, new act specs, etc.)we are supposed to be reimbursed for, even the 15 minutes. Got a partial answer from HR and so far it looks promising.

Those things are required to do our job,, but we do not get paid for them. I think it should be illegal what they are doing.
