MQers: Your 99% QA goal is designed to prune the workforce. (sm) - All Seeing Eye

Posted: May 21, 2011

It is a targeted approach to culling the workforce.

Through attrition, they are cutting their workforce needs.  Only those with the skill set they WANT will survive.

This approach is very effective. They can change the standards/requriements at any given time and then let you go without recourse for not meeting those.

CBay is taking more and more work offshore.  The need for US MTs is less and less.  They will eventually have only a literal handful of US MTs left. THAT IS THE GOAL.

The elite American transcriptionist will be the ones checking the offshore transcription coming in? I am sure that India is not held to the 99% standard!!!!!

Serious question: Why don't they lay us off? - Shoot Me Now

[ In Reply To ..]
Does it cost them to lay us off? I can make as much as I'm making now with my state's UE. I could take the summer off and regroup.

Many will just go ahead and leave on their own. (sm) - All Seeing Eye

For those who leave on their own, no unemployment benefits have to be paid!

For those who are fired for not making their goals, they COULD (depending on the each state's qualification definitions) potentially not have to pay benefits to some.

But most of all, many will leave. They won't be able to stick it out.

Possible scenarios:
1. If you don't qualify your 99% QA score, your access to work is restricted ... therefore you'd be "starved" out ... how many of you can go with half or less of what you are making TODAY? Not many. And for those who can, for how long?
2. You don't qualify your 99% QA score so you are put on other worktypes and your regular rates are reduced because you are no longer the same tier or doing same worktypes.

After all the 'restricted' work is filtered to the MTs who do not meet the 99% requirement, those who do will then have more difficult work (taken from those who do not meet the 99%), making it nearly impossible for those MTs to meet line count and/or the 99% quality requirement.

Serious question - old hand

[ In Reply To ..]
I believe the reason is so that they don't have to pay the increased UIB taxes (unemployment benefits) I don't fully understand how the law works but I believe that if you fire people or them off, it is charged against you and your taxes will go up. If you quit, you can't get unemployment -- so let them fire you or lay you off. If they do let you go because your work is "substandard" have as much documentation at your fingertips as possible, regarding others who have received the same treatment, industry standards, etc., because it may come to a hearing as to whether or not you are entitled to benefits.

I do have a feeling that is how they are going to reduce their workforce-- - Kiki1

by using this new 99% and strict scoring to come up with an "excuse" to fire. I know in CA at least and other states you can get UI if you are fired. I'm sure you have to prove you were wrongly fired. They are going to make it difficult for us to prove that I think. I'm wondering what kind of documentation you are talking about that we have ready. That would probably be a good thing for all of us to know, just in case.

Correct, not sure of all the particulars, but yes, it costs them money to lay you off through unemployment benefits costs. Also, if you get fired, you can sue for all sorts of emotional stuff. You can do that if you quit, too, but it's much easier for the person (employee) to get the upper hand when they're fired. Note there is a difference between layoff and fired. Layoff is they had to do it for financial reasons, and usually more than just a few go. Fired is singled out due to poor work performance or other issues.

Why don't they lay you off you ask? - been there done that

[ In Reply To ..]
They don't lay you off because they have to pay a portion of your unemployment. It saddens me that I have been gone from MQ for a year and these issues have not gone away. Spend your time thinking about how you can use your skills for another job. I have moved on and am much happier--now get even single holiday off and 3 weeks vacation!!! Beats the 5 lousy days a year I got off from MQ.
Oops - been there done that

audit scores - noni

First my disclaimer - I didn't read the e-mail carefully at all since I found another job and am just waiting for the program to be installed before I leave, but I did notice the part about no longer downgrading errors and minor errors getting 0.25 points off now.

In the past, I was told that minor errors don't count against your score, things like commas and hyphens and "the patient" instead of "patient." Does the new system now count minor errors at 0.25 off? I think that would make it nearly impossible for people to achieve 99%, depending on how nitpicky the QC is. My QC even sent out an e-mail saying she's aware that there's more than one way to do things and neither is wrong and it's just the way she prefers. I hope I'm wrong for all your sakes.

Until I'm up and running with the new job, I'm not giving a notice, just in case. But, when I am up and running, I'll need to start immediately and won't be able to give a notice. I was feeling guilty about that, keyword WAS.

All points count on an audit score. nm - All Seeing Eye

That way, we can't collect unemployment, and they can send all the accounts offshore.  Also, that would take care of the MTs whose states are about to raise their minimum wage.  It's a thought. ...

MModal Platform Designed To Slow People Down
Mar 31, 2014

I am an employee of a hospital that uses the MModal platform.  It could be just me, but this new platform seems have been designed to slow people down, rather than make it easier.  Does anyone else agree?  From having to backspace more to the platform not allowing an extra space after headings and needing to go back and add one.  I have also noticed that when I am averaging around 200 lines an hour everything seems to slow down.....I type a partial sentence and have to wait about 15 seconds ...

MQers: Has Anyone Tried

to put Medquist's DQS onto a Windows 7, 64-bit computer, and did it work?  Before or after MQ's latest upgrade of DQS?  I'm reading mixed results...  (Moderator, please please please leave this on MQ's page as it's not just a tech question but is specifically about MQ, and MQ employees who have tried this are more likely to see it here.) ...

Across The Board Apology To My Respected Fellow MQers. Sm
Nov 30, 2010

First, I suppose I have come across here in a tone that was bitter and hateful.  I ask forgiveness for that.  Now, to tell me I am wrong for venting my hatred (wow, where did that come from) and venom on here was extremely hurtful to me.  I have read many, many, many posts here on this board; which is meant to be a place where we can share and vent supposedly without recrimination and some empathy.  And there are many who are also long-time employees who have serious medical ...

WIA/Workforce Funding?

TAA Or UE -- THE WORKONE/WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT OFFICES
Jan 14, 2010

For the typical WorkOne/Workforce Development staffer, being an employee means working 80 hours biweekly and being paid a FIXED hourly rate for those 80 hours.  This is because most people on traditional unemployment (UE), and those receiving TAA, worked 80 hours biweekly and were paid a fixed hourly rate for those 80 hours. That is not how MQ MT pay works.  MTs earn income based on production which is based on work availability or the number of jobs available during 8-hour shift. MTs ...

Inscribe Workforce Turnover Rate
