If your so miserable here - sm

Posted: Mar 25, 2013

Why do you stay? We ALL know this is a dieing field. We ALL have taken paycuts. If your young take control of YOUR destiny and do something about it...If this wasnt a last career for me, I certainly would retrain and do something different. The object of a job is to love it and make the most money possible doing the least amount of work. Find what you love and move on.. Im not being mean, just saying..Who loves this job? I dont, I dont hate it, it pays the extra bills..and Ill stay. But it makes me sad to see everyone on here complaining all the time..If all you can find is things to complain about, and Im not saying your wrong, then its time to move on. If you can do this job your not an idiot so you can learn something different and more profitable..Off the soap box. The object in life, remember, is to be happy and feel like you are making a difference..

I agree with you however you had better.... - sm

brace yourself for the onslaught I guarantee you will see shortly. They DO shoot the messenger here and don't want to hear it even if it's right. As evidenced if you read most of the postings below.

You are at the end of your career - with spelling like that?

[ In Reply To ..]
And you are trying to tell us what to do with our lives?

Yup I love spell check - dont care.nm

So, you admittedly, "dont care" and you are trying to - enlighten us?

[ In Reply To ..]
If you dont care, why are you trying to tell us what to do? Maybe we DONT CARE to hear it again and again! Maybe we DONT CARE about our jobs and we are just doing whatever we have to. Maybe you should just MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!
Ha ha you guys crack me up - stay here and be miserable.
[ In Reply To ..]
whatever, makes no difference to me...Just saying if your miserable. Make a change. Im happy with my life, life is too short..
You are very obviously not an MT! - Unless its an ILP, again!

Happy people do not cause drama!
OK if you say so, Im not an MT - sm

So you dont argee that pay has gone down, work is no longer available, etc. etc. etc. ? the things you complain about every day...If you see it, then its a trend and either you prepare and move on or you get sucked under. Pretty simple concept.

All this bickering is cracking me up, sounds like a bunch of 7th grade girls. I'm sure if anyone from India or corporate reads these posts, they are getting a big kick out of it also. EVERYONE is allowed to have an opinion, geez people, grow up. Comment all you want on this post, I'm done with this board because obviously no one has an opinion better than yours. See ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank goodness - dont let the door hit ya

buh bye
Im saying you are not an MT by your spelling and punctuation - errors and
[ In Reply To ..]
by the horrible attitude towards actual MTs.
complaining of spelling and punctuation on - this site, sounds like QA

no spell checking other people's comments and no calling people names.

Can't we all just get along.

I find that when people are faced with the boldfaced truth and they have no way to defend their arguments, they go to the old your grammar rots or you spelled it wrong argument. Obviously the point was gotten across; they just didn't like the point.
Oh my goodness, LOL...yes, of course ... - bekind

we should not ever call names, oh my goodness, no no, bad MT. We can all get along as long as we never call names. Have a super sparkly day!

Im saying, if your not happy, make a change..Dont let a company drag you down..What makes you think things are going to get better here or in this field in general? Seriously. If a company can get labor cheaper somewhere else, when have they ever come back to the more expensive side?
So go on about your life and leave us alone - wierdo

[ In Reply To ..]
I never insulted you, I never said anything bad..I asked why you would stay in a dead end field..And not be happy doing what you are doing..Yet you jump and take everything negative..I said if you can do this job, you are NOT an idiot, and can find something else. Dont understand where the problem is..If your happy doing this and it makes ends meet then stay..
Thank you, Dr. Phil - wouldnt have thought of that
[ In Reply To ..]
All by myself. If I'm miserable, just leave. What a concept!
If it makes no difference to you - why bother to post?
[ In Reply To ..]
I believe if anyone had wanted your advice, they would have asked for it.
Well lady, who asked for YOURS! Personally, - nm

I see you are one of "those" irritating disagreeable people who try and send a sharp wit (or nitwit) to anyone they can to feel good about themselves.

Are you an MT? - Lally

[ In Reply To ..]
Okay, I understand your point but also understand why others, including myself, stay in the field. I used to love what I do; however, absolutely understand the field is nearly finished. Aside from this, with the shocking amount of grammatical and spelling errors in your post, I wonder if you are an MT with that much experience as most of us just do not make such glaring mistakes!

When I work I worry about grammar and spelling - sm

8 hours a day is enough for me to do that..Sorry, thats just me..plus I have shortcuts for most of the obvious ones..

I agree. - flmt

Are you people perfect on chat and texting? I really think people just look for things to get other people arguing cause it just makes them so happy to ruin someone else's day since they are miserable.
Grammar/spelling - Lally
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm far from perfect! However, I do put effort forth to speak and type properly when I am not working or working. To me, your excuse is just that, an excuse.

There's only one way she could be an MT & be happy: - she must be in INDIA.

I'm not totally happy here, but I have accepted that this is what I have to do for me. If I was younger, I would definitely find something else because I can see where this is going. The reason it works for me, are my home commitments, price of gas (I live in the middle of nowhere), wear and tear on the car, and the ability to work in cheap clothes outweigh the rest. This is an honorable job but technology is killing it. My reasoning behind the original post was never to insult, it was just to say, the writing is on the wall in this field, so it is time to move on. When you take a 10K pay cut over the years, it will never revert back to what it was. It is a sign. Instead of staying on here and being miserable, find something else that makes you happy. Your skills alone from doing this job gives you that ability, I have friends that have done it.

Finally broke away from MM. Working in a much better environment, though not perfect. I just could not stand one more minute of MM. Finishing up school and with a bit of hard work and some luck I hope to make transcripfion a distant memory ..

You Are So Right! - Me Too

[ In Reply To ..]
Transcription is a retirement gig for me too. I do it to keep busy and to provide a little supplement my "real" income. Even so, I did complete coding training--at age 60. When I learned that I'd have to work on site at least during my newbie stage in coding, I decided to stick with the at-home transcription. I can not imagine why any young person with even an minimum of learning ability would remain in a field that is so obviously on the skids. From checking into this site periodically, it is also obvious that most of the posters here are malcontents who'd rather fight with you than do something positive to change their personal situation. You are so right in your assessment. Rather than give serious consideration to your advice, these folks would rather harp on a grammatical error...Go figure!

Thank you - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't care what they say. I really don't. I have food on the table, an awesome retirement, and steady work every week. So, I guess my spelling and grammar are just fine when they need to be.

I get what you are saying - AnotherOldMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I understand exactly what you, the original poster, are saying, because you are thinking exactly what I am thinking. I am at the end of my career too, in 10 months I can retire and I can hardly wait. This is a terrible situation and I, like the original poster, also think that you younger people should be not putting yourself through this, make getting out of this sweatshop your top priority; griping is okay but even if we do sound like scolding old nags with poor spelling; please, listen to us old MTs, find something else to do. We are not unhappy in this job so much as horrified as to what has happened. Even back in the day, when we had decent jobs, in house, with all the per diem we would want, and then some, it was still a hard tough job which we often loved to hate.

I agree that if a person is unhappy in a job..... - Mom22dogs

[ In Reply To ..]
.....they should do everything they can to improve their situation, and complaining without action is not going to accomplish that. However, it is not that easy these days to just "get out". For 20+ years I have supported myself as an in-house medical transcriptionist. Then my hospital outsourced. I had always dreamed of working out of my home and loved doing transcription, so I really thought I could continue to support myself. Because I had been working in-house I had no idea what the climate was like for the medical transcription industry as a whole. I am finding out now that there is no way I can support myself with medical transcription at this point. Also, I am nearing 60 myself (by the way, from the posts that I read it seems like a good percentage of the posters are middle-aged, not young), and even though it's illegal to discriminate because of age, it does make it harder to find a job (note I said "harder", NOT "impossible"). And in my situation I still have a few years until I can collect Social Security (IF it's even still available to me when I'm of age!). In this climate, I think we all need a place to unload and vent!

You are so right Mom22dogs. - buddymt

[ In Reply To ..]
A lot of people think it would be so easy to work from home, but doing production is nothing like working in-house paid by the hour. I think everyone should have to work on production at least one month in their lifetime to see what it is really like to do it. I love working from home, but it can be taxing on your mind and body at times.

we had 700 Walmart applications in our area - recently

[ In Reply To ..]
700 applications for 32 clerk positions, and 500 for 18 night stocker positions. Does this tell you anything about the state of the job market? and some live in really rural areas where there is even less opportunity. Although I agree one should do all one can do to improve his situation, it's easier said than done sometimes.

MT's Are Among Some Of The Most Nasty, Miserable...
Sep 30, 2013

People I've ever come across. Time after time on this board, I've seen people ask simple questions that only require simple answers. But it never fails that someone, and usually more than one person, has to add nastiness,  or rudeness in their answers. Some of you go out of your way to try to bring people down, make them feel bad, belittle them, etc. Will a little kindness kill you? I hate to think some of you act this way to people offline. But I guess it's the whole being b ...

I Hate 6.1! I Just Thought I Was Miserable Before
Sep 09, 2010

My line count is circling the drain. This is the most gawdawful program they have ever come up with. I hate no more "End of Session" button. The numbering system is cool, but doesn't make up for the rest of the crap. If it wasn't for the health insurance, I would be outta here. ...

With The QC Bonus Now Making Us Miserable
Aug 07, 2013

I'm curious as to why Nuance would do this? Why would they give QC a bonus and make ours so darn hard to acheive? Why would they allow QC to continue to make up bogus errors to only make us look really bad?  I think I know. If they show their clients that the US based MTs have worse qulaity than the India based MTs and are more expensive, they could switch over 100% of their client base to India and get rid of all of us and the expense of having us like future Obamacare insurance, P/R ...

Apr 25, 2014

I posted below under are you happy section and responded to someone who said Americans are not spoiled which I very much think I am (now). I told about how life is for me and got so many dislikes; however if you post about your terrible life, cannot find nor keep a job, have to go on goverment assistance, not knowing where your next meal is coming from, not enough to pay your rent, everyone then is like a cheerleader all in your corner. Not everyone is in the same boat but I think most would lov ...

Regarding A September Thread About MTs Being "nasty, Miserable" People
Oct 07, 2013

Quote from your post: " MT's are among some of the most nasty, miserable... People I've ever come across."    I'm a little late to the party, but here's my 2 cents for the OP: You appear to be the kind of person who pulls 1 green M&M out of a bag and then assumes all M&Ms in that bag must be green.  There are nearly 100,000 MTs in the US, but only about 400 visit this board.  Do you see where I'm going with this, or do I have to ...
