Ever Get Burnt Out? - Like just wanna punch out and go to sleep?

Posted: Mar 08, 2012

And come back later? I hate having to punch out for break though because it makes my day longer. My CCM doesn't mind if we take an hour break, but thats just an hour longer that I have to work. My region has had tons of OT lately and mandatory one hour extra for each day your scheduled, for me thats 9hr shifts 5 days a week. Definitly could use the money and nice to know we got so much work. But I think I set myself up for failure when I sign up to do another 3hrs on my days off, meaning I am getting one day off and working six, five of which are 9hr days. This week I did not sign up to work on my days off, maybe next week I wont be so burnt out.

or throw the computer out the window into the pool? - yup almost daily

and I havent been taking that mandatory OT either,,,im in too much pain trying to make it through 8 hrs.

Not "taking" mandatory OT, - sqt

I was under the impression that was not option to take it or not. Nice that some people can pick and choose what rules to follow. Wish they would get rid of the ones who think it is their choice to work their shift or not. Maybe it would be better if everyone followed what they were supposed to be doing and treated this like a REAL job.

I physically cant do an extra hour - sorry but I have severe back problems

And I am not entirely sure they can mandatory make you do OT..I have a doc note that said I was supposed to be not working at all this week..but I am here cause we are backlogged and it makes it harder on everyone else..
and maybe you'll understand in a week or so why some of us do what we do - cause there will be NO work cause they overhired

All the while taking advantage of us while they train new people..Soon you will be begging for work cause they are constantly running out..happened before and it will happen again..
Then why not get the extra money while it is offered - sqt

I am not a newbie, worked this company for 10 years. I'm sick of the fact that I do treat this as a job, as if I was in an office, and follow the rules and the ones who don't get away with everything. And, no it is not in my nature to just not follow the rules, I have more respect for myself than that and integrity.
Well I am in a little better situation then a lot of you - I honeslty feel for you

I got hurt at my other job and make a decent disability off that..I do this to make things a little easier for me and to teach my kids that you dont get money for sitting on your butt doing nothing..Even though the rest of my life will be racked with pain...So I would rather take less and let those of you that are struggling more be able to make the extra money,,because it will dry out here soon..I have also even volunteerd to not work scheduled holidays if there is someone that needs the money more then me and wants to switch to which I was told no, hey I tried...Holidays mean nothing to me, worked them my whole life..Ill work them if I am scheduled no quesitons asked no bitching at all..I come on do my job to the best of my ability, but I will not work overtime because it physically hurts.
To why not get extra money offered: OP here - I agree with you.

That is exactly what I have been doing, getting the money while its there.

This is a real job for me, not a play one and I do take it serious. I also commend your post. I too like to follow the rules and I wanna be taken seriously so conduct myself as such.

Not like this all the time, just every once and a while I have those days. I know you weren't talking directly to me, but I agree with your post and wanted to respond.

Truthfully, I am glad we have this much work.

If it was a REAL job - they would pay us a REAL

living wage. Since they don't, it's great that we can pick and choose what rules to follow. Ah, the good life!

The 1hr mandatory is not an option. I was doing that plus - volunteering to help on day off.

I DO THE MANDATORY HR. But working the extra hours that are offered on my days off are not mandatory and I have been doing that as well for the past 3 weeks and its caught up to me.

You'd have to be crazy not to be burned out - MModal Livestock

Definitely know how you both feel. I think a lot of us are in that boat. I did a lot of OT the past couple weeks. I've been struggling just to get my regular lines and hours. In fact, right before this burst of OT I downgraded to full-time limited benefits for the lower line requirement. Between my carpal tunnel, arthritis, coccydynia and Crohn's it's become a bit too much (all of which is from or severely exacerbated by this job). Plus, my original health benefits got canceled and if I got MModal benefits everything I have would be pre-existing. After my company got bought out, a lot of people ran for the hills, so now the accounts are backed up. That and the vast majority of the doctors are hopelessly ignorant and gum up the whole process.

So now there's so much work we don't know what to do with ourselves. Which is good for money. Who among us can turn down doing our jobs WHILE getting paid a decent wage? That isn't going to happen often. Even though this week I haven't done any extra, it kind of built up.

Now I'm physically rundown, but beyond that I can't take much more of these doctors. They have gotten too far under my skin. Especially telephone consents. If one more hillbilly asks "Why y'all gotta stick these tubes in 'em and give 'em fluids? Why he need none o' that?" I will lose my mind. Half of all the consent notes I do feature that question at some point. What is wrong with this country? Why do people need fluids? To live, usually. Here's a fun home experiment. Don't drink anything. Ever again. Find out what happens.

The other thing that, while I know it's meant well, makes me want to throw my computer out a window is the use of the words "success" and succeed" in every email for a decade. I'm always being told that "You can succeed!" "We will be successful!" Succeed? At what? I'm at the highest pay grade. I'm as good as I'm ever going to get. The reports will never stop coming in. Success is quite literally unobtainable. There will never be a day when I do the last report, dust off my hands, say "My work here is done," and walk off into the sunset with my head held high.

Sounds like you got a lot of illnesses - PLEASE take care of yourself.

I wish you the best with your health insurance and everything.
Thank you - MModal Livestock

Thanks for the concern, it's much appreciated, but I might have painted too bleak picture of my health:) It's a major pain, that's for sure, but I'm doing alright. I even have my Crohn's under control naturally. I eat a good diet and I use an herb called Boswellia serrata. In clinical trials it outperforms mesalamine, which is a common medication prescribed for Crohn's. It's funny, Boswellia's side effects are stuff like itchiness and upset stomach. Mesalamine's side effects could fill a phone book and many of them are quite severe.

So, while it certainly doesn't make my job any easier, don't worry too much about me. I'm doing fine, just griping about the day-to-day grind.

Well if your in pain, I understand. - I got a friend that has the same trouble

She struggles too sometimes because her shoulders and back start to hurt, shes fine with 8hrs, but anything over that she hurts too.

I tried to talk her into getting an ergonomic keyboard, but shes not interested.

I personally wrap my wrist with Ace bandages and wear wrist splints plus I have an ergo keyboard. So the long hours dont bother me, just ever once in a while they do catch up to me, if I dont give myself a break.

I work in a neck brack - have had 2 disk surgeries so far

My low back is no prize and managed to pull my mid back over the weekend..Ugh cant win..I live on a heating pad so much so I have a permanent mark on my back..hey you do what you gotta do..I love this work, I HATE the way we are treated..I would never do anything to compromise patient care or my reports at all..But Im not gonna bust my tail so my CCM can get a bonus for keeping stuff in TAT..There are so many ways that this company could fix their problems..docQscribe is very versitile, it would take several hours maybe weeks for each CCM to conduct a survery and re-route work so it gets done faster, more accurately, and the MTs would be happy...Been here a LOOONG time I know how it Used to be, back when it was a good place to work
Bless your heart. There are a lot of you older ladies on here - I see that have been with M-Modal for a long time.

I can't even force myself to work now for two days. I'm so sick of this work but of course have bills so will have to work 14 hours the rest of the week.  How do you keep from getting to where you just can't force yourself to work? I've only been an MT for four years. ...

How To Not Get Burnt Out
Aug 02, 2014

I've only been in the field for 5 years and have had my share of jobs.  The best was, of course, the in-house job which eventually got outsourced(as many often do).  I'm with a service I'm happy at albeit the pay is what it is (dreadfully low).  I'm only part-time, but I find that 4 hours a shift is just enough for me to handle mentally.  Maybe I bring it on myself, rationalizing what I paid for schooling versus what I actually get paid.  I just find ...

Flat Burnt Out On My Job.
Dec 09, 2011

New QA's and they are "redoing" everything, including report formats.  We've had to correct them on a few items and yet they storm ahead and are making work miserable.  Doctors I've typed for now over 10 years and the new QA person acts as though I'm new and never heard his dictation and "here's how it should be from now on."  WTH? Seriously?  She changes words and puts in the wrong words, not even what was ever said, and then my pay hurts because of ...

in scathing email about working from home so no reason to call in sick.  She fails to mention though that she gets a paycheck whether she's sitting at her computer or not.  I wonder how she'd feel laying in bed with that foot pedal for 8 hours with 103 fever and typing one bad dictator after the other.   Funny how they make it sound so easy and WE help pay for their salary.  Thanx ROM, you're the very best there is!    ...
