Apparently medical record information for bilking Medicare and insurance companies is now way more valuable than credit card information.

Sure glad the government required the EHR/EMR that is putting us all out of business. It makes hacking a breeze.

Regarding the Chinese hacking event of medical information, it is not surprising to me that this has occurred. After all, the medical transcription services are sending all our PHI to other countries including China to acquire cheap labor. So, they (China and other countries) have all the information they need on all of us. (When transcribing, I have seen patients' social security numbers, addresses, etc., so how protected is all this information?)

The heads of these corporations do not care who loses their job (American MTs, billers, coders, etc.) as long as they can create the illusion of making a profit that financial quarter or fiscal year. All they care about is profit no matter whose throat they have to slash.

As far as government required EHR/EMR, the purpose for the EHR/EMR is to improve health quality and convenience, patient participation, improve diagnostics and outcomes, improve care coordination, improve medical practice efficiencies and cost savings. Of course, we all know, no system is perfect no matter who implements it. With the EHR/EMR, upper management and CEOs (main decision makers) have made decisions to outsource or offshore MT jobs, medical billing jobs, coding jobs, etc.--that we, Americans can easily perform. They make these decisions to cut costs even further by acquiring cheap labor from other countries such as India, the Philippines, China, and Pakistan. This, in turn, creates job loss for American workers. So, it is not the governments fault putting us all out of business; that was not the intention to replace all of us; it is those who use the conveniences of the EHR/EMR to acquire cheap labor from other countries where the laws are lax as far as protecting their workers, in order to make a profit from it no matter who it affects or how it affects them. Profit is everything to these CEOs, upper management, and their shareholders, and they do not care who they have to sacrifice in order to get it.

I am currently doing a dictation by a doctor who normally is not that bad, but today he is coughing, hacking, sneezing, and sniffling to the point that he is nearly impossible to understand. Doc, if you're that sick, you need to stay home and not make your patients any sicker. Doesn't do me any good either having to try to make out what you're saying. 'Nuff said. ...
