Air Traffic Controller - anonymous

Posted: Oct 06, 2010

Somebody last week compared our job to an air traffic controller's.  I think it would be like an air traffic controller who has to go to a new airport every day and work (with no errors).  Also similar to a concert pianist who goes onto the stage and has to perform SIGHT READING every night for 8 hours.

For those of you who have regular accounts, you don't understand.  For the others of us who have a million "regular" accounts and then in the cesspool, you do understand.  This is so beyond stressful, I can't even explain it.  Trying to understand complete strangers who are tired, angry, and just plain lazy and slurring and stuttering all over the place (while urinating, eating, swimming, exercising, and sometimes seemingly sleeping) is bad -- but to try and do it with no blanks and no errors is off the chart on the stress-o-meter.

that you have to do it all at 200 lph, during your assigned schedule, for a hundred different clients who all have a different client profile!!!!!!!

thank you - I think I am going over the deep end

I don't know how much more I can take.

I think that is why we come to this board. - dumbdumb

Unless you are doing this feat, nobody and I mean NOBODY understands what this does to you every day, most of us 5 days a week with no sick days, no holidays, and vacation that we have to use for those NJA times that suit MQ's schedule but not particularly ours. I amaze myself that I keep getting up and doing it, but when you have to have a paycheck and this is all you know . . .

Disclaimer: No flamers. I am absolutely too tired to listen to it. Get another job, I know, I know.

This is why I semi-retired. After I did this, every one of my friends told me they were very worried about my mental health as well as my doctor about my physical health. Things are so much better now. No, I do not have insurance any longer, but I will take the less stress over that any day. I know I was heading for a breakdown. My Social Security is half the amount it would be if I had waited 3 more years, but what good would that do me if I was in a home or dead.

I know EXACTLY what you mean - Just last night

I got a Quality Alert (my second only since the beginning of the program). Anyhow, it was on a report NOT from my primary, but from some other work pool. Anyhow, I was marked down for a heading that said CONSULTATIONS and since there was only one consult, it should have actually been CONSULTATION (singular). I agree, technically it should have been singular, but it was SR and I didn't catch it, BUT not sure it deserved points taken off!!? I have been with MQ for 6 years and have never scored lower than a 98.8% on any audit ever. It makes me feel like they are on a witch hunt or something.

mq doesnt care about us - MQ HATER

I feel your pain.

I wish that we would all unite and call in sick for just one day. Imagine the havoc we could cause. A lot of us are afraid of losing our jobs given the economy but if we could unite for just one day and show them that they can't run this business without us, just maybe it would make a difference.

I am so sick of tired of being treated like slave labor. I am looking for another job but it is just not that easy and a lot of places have budget cuts right now.

I don't think it would put much of a damper on - business since we are

about 20% of the transcription force now. Minimal inconvenience if every one of us took the day off.

You are right about that. I was not thinking about how much they outsource. Best thing to do is look for another job which I am doing.

No. They DON'T care. - I am sitting here in tears

right now out of pure frustration and anger.

Today is the second day in a row that I have had NO WORK AT ALL. NONE...NADA.

To top that off, it is the THIRD time my pay has been screwed up because they have not paid me my requested (and granted) PTO. It is like pulling teeth getting them to correct it.

On top of that, I have NEVER been paid for the 15 minutes of NJA that we are supposed to be paid for. It is written clearly in their policies...yet they keep making excuses...keep trying to make it my fault somehow (HOW could it possibly be MY fault THEY aren't following their own policies??????)

I have had it. This company is disgusting. They could care less about us. They don't care if we have to live in a cardboard box so long as we get our lines in. OH...you want to put me on production management because I can't get my line quota in? (which has not happened to me yet) Well...guess WHY I can't get it in, huh??? Because I have NO WORK!!!!!!!!!!

I encourage all of you to do what I am going to do. I have drawn a line in the sand with them. If they do not correct my pay and pay me the PTO they owe me AND pay me for all the 15 minute increments of NJA they owe me (which is substantial) I will be calling the Department of Labor...THIS WEEK. Then, I will go to the Employment Office. I am no longer going to communicate with my CCM, payroll, HR, or anyone else within MQ regarding this issue. I have already said everything to them I have to say and have provided them with all the documentation they need. If they don't want to do what they are legally bound to do, then so be it. I'm not going to quit, mind you, they will have to fire me.

I want these government agencies to see this company for what they are (I don't think docking our pay for QA is legal either).

And there are laws in place to protect us against "whistleblowing" as well.

I'm not scared anymore (not even about losing my benefits, which I do need...I would rather have my self-worth, dignity, and sanity), I'm PISSED. I've had it. I'm in tears right now out of pure anger and frustration.

Even if others don't follow in my footsteps, I don't care, but I know that it would help in shedding light. Don't be fooled that "they are too big to bring down." Look at the big corps like Enron, etc.

Scrutinize your pay stubs ladies. I can't be the only one who is having these issues. Third time for me just trying to get my PTO...

We are not a valuable asset to them...we are slaves. And personally, I am better than that...we all are.
Please let me know something about the - pay for NJA
[ In Reply To ..]
I am NJA almost every day (today for the first 2 hours of my shift). I am told to "work the weekends and nights to make it up." I have never been offered to be paid for those times. That would be awesome because I now have to work another part-time job to make ends meet because of my lousy pay with MQ and when I have to make up my work with MQ, I have no time at all left for me or my family. What is the procedure for that, and what is the pay? Is it paid at the benefit rate? You hang in there! We all feel your pain and are at the end of our ropes. I am looking into going back to school to try to get another career that actually pays something.
Every time you have NJA, you are supposed to be - paid the for the 15 minutes
[ In Reply To ..]
that you are required to wait before logging off. By law it is considered "waiting to work" and MQ is required to pay us at minimum wage (except for in certain states that receive their benefit rate).

In my case, I have never been paid for that 15 minutes. In the year I have been here, it amounts to quite an amount of money as I get NJA on a regular basis.

I printed the policy out this morning. They are trying to make it out to be my fault (saying I didn't do things the proper way); however, I have followed the policy to the letter. So...they don't have a leg to stand on.

Unfortunately, you still have to make up the time (minus those 15 minutes) or take PTO or just not get paid. In my case, there is never enough work to make it up! I can't wait to get out of here!
LOW WORK - MQ
[ In Reply To ..]
They are asking for OT on my accounts. I wonder why they don't move the work around to BOBs that have no work. Makes no sense. They have no idea what they are doing. MQ not worth tears but I do understand how you feel and have been in tears over this stupid company too many times to count.

You know its bad when - you would rather be fired

[ In Reply To ..]
I would actually make MORE money on unemployment right now if I were to be fired than I make working my fingers to the bone (when there is work).
