these ARNPs - sm

do not give me much confidence of their knowledge when I hear how they dictate.  This one says that someone is there to "interpretate" for the patient.  She could not pronounce caliectasis to save her life, not even close, etc.  I know they have more knowledge than I do, but am not sure it's enough to take care of me, at least not when I have to pay the same price for them as I do a full-fledged doctor.

Someone told me once that nurses don't take a course in actual medical terminology, and I'm convinced most aren't good in English.

I have to say, I respect their credential and knowledge of their sciences, but their use of the English language and pronunciation of medical words is pretty bad. Medication pronunciations as well.

I think if the hospitals can get low rates for offshored - MT, we should too for non-MD medical care! nm

The same goes for PAs and PA-Cs.... - anon

I transcribe for a lot of PAs, one of them is a woman, and for the life of me, she has so much trouble with the words "medial meniscectomy" it's unbelievable, not to mention patient names...if I did not have a daily patient schedule in front of me, I would never on God's green earth be able to understand who she is dictating on. These things are essential for a patient record....if you can't even get the name right, what hope do I have of getting it right?

I've had the opposite experience (sm) - Morgan

In my 25+ years transcribing I have found NPs to be much better dictators than doctors, although the sound quality isn't the greatest because they are often stuck in high traffic hallways to have to dictate with a lot of background noise. All have been women though, and female doctors are generally better dictators than men who are brought up not to think of others like women are.

Respect For ARNPs And The Like

I have a really hard time respecting some of these dictators when they say things like "no congenial abnormalities" meaning congenital.  And stumbling around before finally spelling words that a 4th grader could pronounce.  When I go to the doctor, living very rural, oftentimes it will be the NPs or PAs who examine you and render a diagnosis.  I realize there are good ones and bad ones, but if the threshold for getting their degrees is so low that they can regularly make these di ...
