kicking myself - justme

Man, I hate when I make a mistake.  I had two shortcuts that were similar and I accidentally typed the wrong one in this report.  Luckily QA caught it, but I just can't stop thinking about it because it was such a stupid mistake and if I would have just looked over the report a little closer it would have been caught.  I had a feeling that I might have made this mistake because in another report I again typed the wrong shortcut but caught it.  I know we are all human and everyone makes mistakes, but it just is really bothering me.  I'm reminding myself of all the mistakes that these dictators make on a daily basis with spelling, grammar, etc. to try to make myself feel better, and they will even say the wrong word sometimes.

Just had the same experience - desertfox

My expander had SCD as sudden cardiac death and plopped that in the report like so "for dvt prophylaxis i am recommending sudden cardiac death" ARRGH! the speech recognition expanded the doctor's SCD, instead of expanding to serial compression device...of course I should have caught that - i have over 20 years experience as an MT - i was mortified and of course - deleted that sucker out of my abbreviation expander...

Thank you - been kicking myself all day

Justme: Just think about all the things you have done right and learn from this experience. You are doing a lot better than you think. As you say we are human and we make mistakes. Also it is easier for someone else to catch your errors than it is for you. I go back and read over with the doctor again. It helps to catch that kind of thing. Good Luck!!!

that I did something really stupid I agonize over it all day. Compare how you feel to the "oh well" attitudes of some MTs. I have seen some VR reports that I swear were not edited at all. I realize we have to now go as fast as we possibly can because the compensation has become ridiculously low, but it is very hard to let go of the way I have always done my job. I take pride in my work, alway have, and have been doing this for over 30 years.

When I have a mishap like this, I use it as an opportuntiy to rethink and revise the shortcut in order to prevent a recurrence.

I think a shortcut mistake like that happens to - (sm) - Meerkat

all of us at one time or another. When I find I have 2 shortcuts that are too easily mistaken for each other, I'll try changing one of them, so they're less similar. I have one problematic shortcut that I've programmed in a question to myself such as ("did you mean XX, or was it XXX?") That forces me to stop, check it, then erase the question. Usually I do that as a training tool for myself, which I can remove later. In some cases, where the mistake happens more than once, I eliminate that shortcut entirely, and just type it out manually.

Getting Warned About QASAR Kicking In Today.

My question:  If I do not pass my audit (good chance I will not for MANY reasons), and the outcome is getting fired, WILL I BE ABLE TO COLLECT UNEMPLOYMENT AND GET TAA.  I would like to go back to school, no matter what the outcome is, and of course collect unemployement while attending school. I have been an MT for 30 years.  My audits are usually 97.8 and hard to get 98% ALL THE TIME with the horrible dictators.  If I get a couple of good dictators, then it is at 100%, lik ...
