Have you ever gotten through an extremely long and complicated report by an ESL, where you had to do a lot of research and verification, gone back and proofread while listening and you haven't left a single blank, and you are so proud of yourself that you fantasize the doctor calls your MTSO personally and says, "Wow, this MT is fantastic!  I have never seen such a beautiful report as this!"   Haha, yeah, right, dream on.

I would dread a difficult ESL liking my work so much - he would request me to do all his work

I had this happen to me once before in private practice where the doctor told me I was the only one he wanted to do his reports and his dictation actually kind of made me sick because of his dialect where it sounded like he had phlegm in his throat.

Be careful what you fantasize, it may come back to bite you.

and educating them about what truly constitutes a STAT.  Just because something is dictated by a resident does not mean it is a stat, especially if the discharge was 4 months ago.  Of course, I also have fantasies of conducting a class for residents, helping them to utilize their critical thinking skills and critically evaluate the pertinent information for the report instead of talking for 30-45 minutes about stuff that does not need to be on the chart for the umpteenth time.  If ...
