What are MTs averaging biweekly with VR - Stressed MT

Posted: Apr 11, 2013

I am trying to find out what MTs are bringing home biweekly with voice recognition full time and part time. I am also trying to determine which company, TTS or Nuance, to go with. I have been reading more bad comments on Nuance but rarely anything on TTS other than they may get bought out from Nuance or are affiliated with Nuance. Information will help me greatly! Thanks!!

Part time, 99% VR, and I am bringing home about $500 every 2 weeks.

If I had to choose, I would go with Nuance, probably against popular opinions. The only reason would be that TTS could get bought out by Nuancce anyway, and I have never heard of them paying late. These are not good reasons, but that is my dumb logic.

Full time, approx. $430-$480 biweekly. :( - ThatSUX

That's with TTS, 99% VR, and after my health insurance premium is taken out (which is taken out pretax). They are a smaller company and are NOT going to be bought out my Nuance (rumors). They use the Nuance software and do some overflow for companies using Nuance. They pay less than Nuance which has 1000s of employees and TTS has several 100 employees. So depending whether you just want to be one among thousands or get to know and be known by everyone, the smaller company, to me, is better. They are strict with schedules and quality and will keep their eye on your for the first 90 days or so, but after that if you do well, they pretty much leave you alone. I got off to a rocky start myself, but once I got the hang of the VR, those who were riding me early on have come out and actually praised me for the quality of my work and my work ethic. So you have to decide if you want a very large company with a slightly higher line rate or a smaller company who almost never runs out of work, give TTS a try. Also, you work on the same account all the time and once proficient, you're given a secondary account. If you find you don't like them, you could always ask to be reconsidered at Nuance.

Thank you for your feedback. I am trying to go with the company that will best fit me while I am going to school. I have decided to go back to school and get out of transcription all together, but I need it to last me at least two more years and need to bring home at least 1,000 a month if possible. Thanks for your info. Best of luck to you all!

I never thought I would say this to anyone, but I think you are a very wise person to get out as soon as you can. It makes me sad to even write these words. I wish you best of luck in a great new career outside of MT.

I am able to make bonus and I earn about 480 per week. I am able to make bonus on a consistent basis, but one day I took arranged PTO for spring break and I lost my bonus and of course the PTO was paid so low that I lost about 240.00 for taking that one day off. That was a disaster! I used to work for both M Modal and Nuance but actually cutting out M Modal and concentrating just on Nuance I am able to catch every comma, and, but, etc. carefully and able to make bonus so I can earn as much as if I worked 2 jobs together. I was stressed out at first at Nuance with very demanding QA and lost line count worrying but after I got a grip and concentrated on each word (especially VR) the speed came up. Like I said now with bonus I can get the 480 a week minus health insurance. Having said that I also go to graduate school half time on line so I was out of my mind doing 2 jobs and school. One thing you might want to consider, TTS may pay less per line than Nuance and Nuance does have a bonus structure. It is hard to get bonus, took me months to build up confidence to ignore the stressful threats from QA and actually concentrate to get real quality (bonus depends on quality and line count). Good luck to you. At the end of the day pick which company pays better and then work on your own stress busting abilities, b/c in any MT job there will be things which will be unfair and which will tick you off. Good luck.

I am going back for teaching. I started several years ago and have 2 more years under my belt. I am going with a more stable career where technology is longer away from taking over. I have a degree in court reporting, but they are going down the same path as transcription. Third times a charm, right?

When I was on an excellent account, I could bring home about $750 biweekly. When the good accounts went away and we were left with the horrible ones, I was lucky to make $500 with the same amount of hours.

Unknown Biweekly Pay
Dec 13, 2014

Having read the posts regarding unknown pay, I totally agree. This first rollout week, I had 2 reports audited, just got lucky. So, if next week I have an audit 'fail' their new patient safety thing, then my pay goes below minimum wage for that week. Aside from the fact that we will be re-reading every report for any 'minor' errors that are now major errors under the new system. Nuance will end up paying overtime to get the work done within TAT. I cannot work in a job wher ...
