Ramblings...... - nosoccermom

Posted: Jul 11, 2011

I'm fairly new to this board, but I couldn't help but notice a few things and felt the need to share.  I've spent some time reading back through posts just to catch up and get a feel for what goes on here.  I'm not a newbie by far, I love what I do, have a great position with a small company, and am just simply happy where I am.  So, this is what I've noticed.

Some of you are very helpful and caring in your replies to each other.  Those of you who lift each other up and help each other to get over whatever hurdle is in the way are why I will continue checking in here.  Many of you are VERY informative and on a whole, you all "know your stuff!"

Many of you complain about "hating" your job, your pay, your supervisor, your QA, etc., etc.  Many of you are downright mean to each other.  Had I been on the recieving end of some of the replies, I'm not sure I'd dare post again.

VERY interestingly, I read a few posts from the "moderator" throughout and what that person said was to not do the things many of you continue to do; however, you continue to do so.  In reading back and putting two and two together, I now see that most of you that do not follow the directions are the same who "hate" your etc., etc., etc.  So, if simple rules for an MT website are too hard to follow, one would have to wonder how you handled the same with your job.

If I keep these thoughts in my head too long, most likely it will just burst or at least kill off a few struggling brain cells (I need to keep all that I can!), so I chose to just throw it out there.  Now, I have a tough skin and can take the backlash, but I hope you will stop to think the next time you throw out a nasty reply to someone.  You don't know what that person deals with on a day-to-day basis, what their mental state might be (many women deal with depression), how sensitive that person is, and so on.  I'm pretty sure we are all adult women here, so lets act like it!!

Thanks for letting me ramble!!!

I interpret "ineloquence" to be a more appropriate - adjective than "nasty."

Some posters express themselves more eloquently than others and have a higher tolerance of an opinion that differs from their own than others. A lack of eloquent style of communication does not always equate a nasty person. If you can separate the style of the poster from the character of the poster, the bite is less offensive; and when a poster expresses appreciation for your advice or support, the impact of all bites is forgotten. There's a Russian proverb: If you don't like what is being said, walk away. An audience walkout is disempowering to the center-stage performance.

...ramblings, brain relief (?), criticism.

whatever.

Naw, some come to be nasty but totally agree with - just blowing them off. Often

the header clues the purpose, so I just don't open and move on. If I'm lured in, as soon as the bile starts flowing--I'm gone.

OP's so right about the correlation between poor performance and...poor performance, but although my withers are occasionally wrung, smiling politely and moving on to chat with someone else, so to speak, really makes for a much more worthwhile party.

that is what I was saying, to each their own "ramble" - to quote the OP. Done. anommt NM

,

I think the "nastiness" is a pressure-relief. It's not - necessarily aimed at any individual,

but rather, it's aimed at a MINDSET. There is a complacent, timid, dont-rock-the-boat mindset in the MT community that makes it fertile ground for the unscrupulous to come in and take advantage of us.

With the stress of trying to do the impossible on a daily basis in the MT field, many MTs are ready to explode. Having a forum such as this, where they can do so in a safe-and-sane manner, is a godsend for many of us.

I don't think I was necessarily speaking to any one of you directly, so if you're taking it personally then I'm sorry you feel that way. I didn't set it so that I could edit the post later or I would change the word "nasty" to something more comfortable. Hope the sun is shining in your neck of the woods! It's absolutely beautiful here today, slight breeze and not too hot. Life is good!

We're most of us blowing off in some manner. Just not all - all of us attacking others. No excuses. NM

My Thoughts And Ramblings...
Oct 09, 2010

Just the ramblings and observations of me.. The national I worked for the longest was MDI-MD and it truly was the best compared to everything else I had experienced as far as national companies.  The thing they did best was 1) pay the MT premium pay.  2) Offer bonus incentives that were obtainable frequently if the account was out of TAT which really made the pay nice. And 3) and probably most importantly figured out that for an MT to be productive and successful they needed to NOT be ...
