My dream job - Robin

Posted: Oct 08, 2012

I was offered my dream job over the weekend.  I don't want to name the company as they were great.  The woman who hired me was terrific.  I know I wasn't their first choice as I got the call on Saturday, could I start right away.

I filled out the contract, printed all the information.  It took me all day Saturday.  I was anxious and excited.  As the day went on I noticed little things that I wasn't told about the platform.  There was no spell check, would have to type in Word and transfer the work to the platform.  That should have been my first red flag.  When I tried to get into the program my computer would say, not a secure site, every time.

QA would have to be done in an IM program, transfered to them, wait for the QA and then transcribe again.

By Sunday morning I realized my foot pedal wouldn't work with their platform and my computer was putting up firewalls all along the way.  So my dream job turned into a nightmare and I lost a weekend.  I finally gave up.

I know I didn't ask a lot of questions, but who does, we all want that job so badly.  I also think they should have told me I would be toggling back and forth for every report.  So time-consuming you really can't make any money.  I am still searching.  I hope I will find that job.  There seems to be a lot of work out there, but it is so hard to get the right fit.

Thanks for listening.  Nobodys fault but my own.

I can't blame the company, they were very nice.

Dream job - Sorry

First, I'm sorry things didn't work out for you. :( Like so many other MTs, I've had to jump from one job to the other (not my style) in the past 6 years just to make ends (barely) meet. It's very stressful to complete new-hire paperwork and scary to step into the unknown.

You say that this company is great/nice, but my guess is they knew exactly what they were offering. I understand why you didn't ask so many questions up front (been there, done that), but here's the thing: No matter how many questions you ask, the very thing you neglect to ask is the very thing they're withholding. Recruiters are reluctant to disclose the issues that have caused them to lose MTs in the past.

Don't blame yourself or your equipment. Who could possibly anticipate no spell check or QA by IM? Ridiculous! Who would even think to investigate THOSE things in advance?

Your dream job may still be out there! I wish you the best!

Live and learn - anon

I've been through similar and it is heartbreaking. It takes me a good two weeks to recover from this type of thing. I just had this experience a few weeks ago. It hurts very badly but you will bounce back. My thing is to keep looking for a job even though you think you have one or even have one, that's what I call insurance for job security which we have very little of. You take and and don't ever give up. Good Luck.

What happened to our profession?  I thought we were "Medical Language Specialists"?  We should be compensated for our expertise and knowledge.  I have a solution to our latest, serious, escalating problems with this "armed robbery in plain sight" of our well-earned, inadequate pay...in order to be a medical language specialist who listens to unintelligible doctors with foreign accents; doctors dictating 5 words in 1 word; background noises o ...

My Dream

I am looking forward to the day when I ask about a company and the response is; "it's the greatest company!!!!  They really understand that they would not be in business without the wonderful work we do and they appreciate all their MTs.  They pay 10 cpl because fair compensation is their standard.  There is trust and respect for our work.  Also, penty of work for everyone who is willing to work".   I actually saw a job posted that stated the line rate as 6 to 6.5 ...

Dream Job
May 05, 2012

After almost 6 months of being unemployed,I was very lucky this week to find a position that pays an hourly wage. I feel so good about this and it is way more than minimum wage with a company. I want to make this one work out and am very positive about it. It's amazing what knowing what you will make each day can do for your moral. It takes some of the stress off. ...

Am I In A Bad Dream Or What?
Jan 15, 2013

Suddenly, all of my reports are horrible, the dicators are so bad and the sound quality so low and fuzzy. Somebody please wake me up from this bad dream. Yesterday I had a dictator who was so annoying, when he said "median raphe" and VR put "middle finger," you can't imagine (or maybe you can) how badly I wanted to keep the VR version! I hope this isn't the way it's going to be from now on. This is like the account I had when I first started with MM (then MQ). I thought I ...

Getting Out Of MT - Am I Too Old For Dream Job
May 28, 2013

I will be starting college this fall.  I am no longer going to be in transcription - just can't do it anymore.  I want to be an RN.  After I finish college I will be 40.  Now, I know 40 isn't old, but is it too old to be a nurse?  I feel like hospitals and clinics would want the 20 something nurses who have endless amounts of energy.   ...

Here is my question: Are you learning software like what is mentioned below: Vision, Logician and Coding? Or would one probably learn those on the job at entry level? Advertised Position: This position will specialize in Primary Care. Consults with physicians and their practices on Coding protocol ...

Dream Kitchen/office Ideas
Jul 30, 2010

Hi my fellow MTs!  Pinch me I am dreaming!  My SO is building us a new home, and Monday we meet with the kitchen designer/cabinetry dude to layout the kitchen, which will include my office. He was insistent that he build a corner desk overlooking the woods, the best view of the house!  He did not want me holed off in another room of the house, but wants to keep me in the heart of it!  Yes, he has an ulterior motive... preparing scrumptious meals while I work... but thats fine ...
