Is learning Microsoft Word 7 difficult? - countryhick

Posted: Oct 17, 2009

I have never used this for doing MT.

Not anymore than any other program you've never used before. - SM

Get yourself a good book. Que publishes excellent books on Word.

I'm just worried... - countryhick

I have been an MT for 17 years - mainly in-hospital. I was offered an at-home MT position even though I have no exp. on MS Word. They just told me to go out and buy it, which I did - but I am so scared now because I do not know anything about it. Please do not flame... I'm nervous enough about this as it is. Thank you for understanding.

Do they know you've never used Word before? - SM

Did they tell you to buy 2007? If not, 2007 is very different from earlier versions and you will have to learn how to save your documents down to their version. I hope for your sake that they understand you are going to be very slow at it in the beginning. My advice is still to get yourself a very good book so you can at least learn the basics right away.
yes..... - countryhick

Yes, they do know. I told them right off the bat. I asked what I could do to start getting used to it - they just told me to "play around with it". Training is Monday over the phone - so no time to get a book. I think I made a major mistake by taking this job and not having exp. in this. I'm a nervous wreck.
You can see free demos on the Microsoft site. - SM

Go to Microsoft.com and click on the Office link at the top. Then click on the How To link and you'll see lots of free info there on the program. There are also lots of free demos to get you started.

A bit confused here -- are you talking about the new version of Windows which just came out or are you talking about Microsoft Word? One is an operating system, the other a word processing program and most of the companies that I am aware of still require Windows XP for an operating system. HTH

I'm talking about Microsoft Word... - countryhick

processing program - I have Windows XP.

Just a bit confusing because you had referred to it as "7" insead of Word 2007 -- not a bad platform but my company provides the computer (a laptop) and the software.
yes I did ... sorry- I meant Word 2007 - countryhick

I have always used the company's software also and now am nervous - but they did know ahead of time that I had no exp. on Word 2007.
You'll be fine. It's not a bad program at all. :) - Gal Friday

I agree you should probably go to the Microsoft site and look at the demos.

I just got a new computer and am trying to find a downloadable version of Microsoft Word (ideally 2003, which is what is on my old computer) or even 2008 or 2010.  I had found a downloadable version of this for $39.99 a couple of months ago, but I didn't bookmark it and now can't find it.  When I go to the Microsoft website, the only downloadable version I can find is apparently their new Office 365.   TIA to anyone who can help :-) ...

VR Learning
Aug 05, 2011

In a training on EditScript today, we were told in editing a report to change the whole word that is wrong, not just change on letter, for example, if it puts sever and the word is supposed to be severe, to change the whole word, not just add the e.  The trainer said that the system learns better that way.  So my question is, and I would have asked her if I had thought of it at the time, does VR learn when we use word expansions.  Is it learning from the keystrokes we use or from ...

Anyone Else's Job Getting More Difficult
May 27, 2015

My account went to Epic, not the first time I've lost an account to Epic, so I should be used to this by now.  All these little partial dictations of a couple lines or less makes it extremely hard to get a decent line count/make money (!). That, in addition to no punctuation and apparently the speech rec engine has to start "learning" the dictators all over again.  It's just horrible.  Words of support or encouragement desperately needed. ...
