Guess I will not be in the next MModal coding program, - mt1981

Posted: Mar 03, 2015

I just heard from someone who was in the class.  They took the final test and then the very next day they discontinued the program.   Don't know any other specifics.  Feel bad for the students.  Hopefully they can use any knowledge they gained to their benefit.

Maybe just meant no further classes. Why would they - hold a final test and then tell

[ In Reply To ..]
them too bad. I think you're just looking to stir the pot.

Not stirring the pot, - mt1981

[ In Reply To ..]
I wanted to get into the next program. Was just informing others what I was told. Done with this board and the nasty people on it.

Because it is M*Modal and agree with MT1981 about - your

[ In Reply To ..]
Nasty response. I don't why the mod allows you to constantly insult people (pot-stirrer is one of your tired and overused phrases). People who work/worked at M*Modal knew, but hoped we were wrong, about the coding program. Yet every time we tried to warn MTs to not get their hopes up, you got dramatic about any negativity about coding. It's a simple fact that M*Modal is not in the business of doing anything that benefits their employees, are disorganized, have a poor business model that make for a stressful working environment and discouraged employees, and make poor business decisions. Since MT1981 was telling the truth, your insinuation that they were lying is obnoxious, as always.

It's true - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I heard also from someone in the program that they dropped it and scrapped the whole thing. I didn't know they took the final test, however. What a waste of time and money.

Wasnt there speculation that - they just started it as a distraction

[ In Reply To ..]
during their bankruptcy proceedings? Maybe the ones who took the program can find another apprentice program? Anybody??

This all sounds like speculation - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Anyone who was actually in the program
care to update us? Maybe they all took the final test and MModal gave them coding apprentice positions but just put further classes on hold to see how the original apprentices do.

Not offered coding positions, - mmmt

Back to doing transcription. No other comment.

Wow...that's insane to do that to all of you. - nm

Thanks for letting us know. - Very sorry to hear :( nm

xx

Thanks for letting us know - but...

[ In Reply To ..]
how bizarre! Sorry you guys had to go through this.

Thats a shame - AC

[ In Reply To ..]
What a horrible company MModal is truly to do that, just icing on the cake.

You folks need to remove the rainy day blinders. - Coder

[ In Reply To ..]
What Is all the upset about? I think it worked out very well. THEY GOT CODING TRAINING. FOR FREE. If MM does not want to hire them, so much the better! All they need to do is take the CPC exam and apply for a coding job somewhere else.

Sure, they won't be getting the MM experience, but they shouldn't be stuck with the obligation to work for MM for another 15 or 16 months.

I understand the concern about the change in plans, but there should be a silver lining.

Training does not equate to experience - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
IMO, the work experience would have been far more valuable to list on your resume than just training, even if they got their CPC-A. No experience is no experience. I don't want to open that can of worms again, because it's been hashed and rehashed here time and time again, finding a job with no experience, but I'm sorry for all the participants who did not get what they were promised.

Agreed it worked out fine for me, no complaints here - Former MM coding student

[ In Reply To ..]
I was paid to learn. Do you know how amazing that is, even if things didn't work out as planned??? We were told a lot of clients are hesitant to sign contracts until they find out where ICD10 is going. If they do indeed go through with it we may have many new clients and they will need all the CAP students they can get.
But you'll still need to go to a real school in - order to get certification.
[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry, but that is wrong, wrong, wrong and you are not a - coder.
[ In Reply To ..]
You have to go to a real school to get certified? Since when?

I can't wait to hear the explanation for this!!
Believe what you like, then. - No explanation required.
[ In Reply To ..]
n
More like "no explanation exists" - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The only requirement for AAPC coding exams is a high school diploma. There is no restriction about how or where a candidate learns coding.

AHIMA requires certain coursework for their coding exams, but that only applies if the candidate does not have two years of on the job experience. Other than that, there is no restriction on how or where a candidate learns coding.

The above is easily verified on their websites. I don't know what motive or need someone would have to be misleading about that.

To reiterate the above, "What. Ever." - n
[ In Reply To ..]
When you're dealing with M*Modal, there are - LOTS of reasons for being misled.
[ In Reply To ..]
Wrong, wrong wrong - Check again
[ In Reply To ..]
Actually, it is not wrong. AHIMA and AAPC both stipulate completion of a coding program on their web sites in order to sit for the exams. No one with just a high school diploma is going to pass.
it WAS a coding program - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
By M*M. So likely not up to par. - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
again, as on MModal board no on here states they were certified - from the program. It was in
[ In Reply To ..]
our contracts that certification was to be obtained elsewhere. I'm not sure why people on these boards think we were so naive to think we were certified during the program. The training wasn't that bad...geez.
But what good is it if MM is dropping the - program and not hiring?
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Well, for starters, they are now trained coders and - can get a better job.
[ In Reply To ..]
What good is it?? Well, for starters, now that they are trained, they can get certified and get a better job coding.

If they applied for our vacant positions, we would take a close look at someone who was chosen for an employer-sponsored training program, completed it, and passed even one certification exam.

And, yes, they DO qualify to take the CPC exam and their training will count to remove one year of the experience requirement.
PARTIALLY trained. - Not fully trained.
[ In Reply To ..]
..
Why are they only partially trained? - ??
[ In Reply To ..]
What did they have? ICD-9-CM? CPT? HCPCS? If so, they have taken the material in the AAPC CPC course.
If you know something different, please share.

If they did not have even that, but they liked the coding, they should just take a course. They will find it much easier and faster. They can then get certified and hire on with a more reputable employer.
we did not get CPT or HCPCS. Though they did sent us a - Free CPT book
[ In Reply To ..]
a couple weeks after canning the program. Because they had already ordered them and spent the money before they knew what was coming.
no you don't - and define real school
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not sure what you mean by a "real school" but as long as one can pass the certification test, whether you went to school, learned on the job, or learned it on your own, you can get certified. Where and how you learned to code doesn't matter as long as you can do it correctly.
Fact - Not telling the whole story
[ In Reply To ..]
AAPC requires work experience or completion of a program to take the certification exam, or a letter of recommendation from an employer, I read it not 5 minutes ago on their website. AHIMA states very clearly that they require completion of a program or work experience. Self-taught coders would need work experience plus letters of recommendation for the AAPC exam.
okay - so what is the problem
[ In Reply To ..]
why do you think that the MM students now have to go to a "real school"?
Huh? - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
MM students do not have any work experience and I seriously doubt that AAPC or AHIMA will accept MM's "training" as a prerequisite to qualify for the cert exams.
well I think they will accept it so - we shall see
[ In Reply To ..]
why don't you wait and see if the MM students are allowed to test and whether they pass before you decide?
Because MModal is NOT a *real school*. - Its just a con-artist MTSO.
[ In Reply To ..]
did you take the course? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You don't know what they taught. You don't know that they won't be allowed to test, you don't know that they were "partially trained" and I'm done talking to you.
That is NOT what it says. I have those credentials. - Do YOU???
[ In Reply To ..]
I have both the CPC and CCS. You are misreading -- or deliberately twisting --both websites. The only REQUIREMENT to sit the AAPC CPC exam is membership and a high school diploma. If you pass, you get the CPC-A credential. The apprentice "A" can be removed with 2 years experience, or with 1 year experience and completion of an 80 hour course. (MMs course will qualify.)

AHIMA has 5 ways to qualify for the CCS. One is 2 years of experience. Another Is a CPC and 1 year experience. No course is required.

Please stop using misinformation to harass and discourage those MM coders and others. It is verging on bullying.
If you have the credentials, then why bother - going thru MM"s so-called course?
[ In Reply To ..]
You seem to be confused about which board this is. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
This is the CODING board, not the disgruntled MM employee board.

I don't work for MM. I have been a coder for years.
Andrews, for instance. The one everyone on - here considers to be the "only" school.
[ In Reply To ..]
So do please let us all know when MM gives you - a big bucks coding job.
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm sure we'd all like to hear about that.

Yes, but they were expecting to be employed/working - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
as coders for MM and not MTs and making much better money, getting bonuses, getting paid holidays, getting paid vacation, etc. To go through all the work, studying, and testing and expecting to be employed as a coder and then have the rug pulled out from under you must be extremely upsetting. That is what the upset is about. I hope they all do take the exam and find other jobs as coders. Wishing them all good luck!

Outside looking in - This is what I think

[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry, but those who got the training would probably would only have been working for MM as apprentices anyway. I saw their requirements for coders and it looked as if the standards were pretty high. Regardless of what the Andrews cheerleading team would like people to believe, very few new coders start off making big bucks, it's like being a new inexperienced MT, most of us were pretty green until we got some experience. M-modal is not about to cut a bunch of newbies loose at home if they want to keep their clients, there is too much of a learning curve. You could get a certification, though and try to get another job. Anyway, sorry it happened.
I work for MM and did not make it into the coding - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
program MM offered but they did tell us what we would be paid if we went through the coding program and it was great money with great bonuses, so yes they would have started out making big bucks but unfortunately it didn't happen for those MTs. You don't work for MM so you don't know anything about what they offered in their program, pay, etc.

The main point of it was to have the paid internship and - gain experience. nm

[ In Reply To ..]

and have a job as a coder once finished with the program. - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
x

Unfortunately that never came to fruition. - n/msg

[ In Reply To ..]

Wow. Unbelievable if this is actually true. This - scenario was speculated though

[ In Reply To ..]
in the beginning, but the coder students bashed those comments and rather said MM was dumping transcription and moving focus on coding. Based on that, I doubt any of them will come on and tell what happened. I do feel bad for them though (again, IF this is true). Do you think you all received adequate education to test though? Hopefully so and then you can just move on, having at least received that.

Guess There Are Americans Still Working For MModal
Sep 20, 2013

FB page claims it is National Cheeseburger Day.  In Hinduism religion (religion of 85% of Indians according to Wikipedia), cows are sacred and not usually food.   Found it amusing the first line of the post is "Turkey can never beat cow."  Today is National Cheeseburger Day.  Seems a little insensitive to the Indian workers of MModal.   Maybe it's not odd, but after the week I had, I found it somewhat amusing. ...
