semi retired MT - Kya

Posted: Oct 21, 2010

I have been considering taking on a PT position with an MTSO at home.  Tested, passed and am being offered 10.5 cpl transcription, .7 cpl VR.  (I have never worked at home, retired a year ago from in-house company where I worked for 25+ years).

This rate seems generous by the board posting norms.  Is it a too good to believe situation?  Or should I take it?  (biggest co.  starts with an M...)

yes, it's too good to be true. - sm

I've been doing this 35 years and don't make that much. I see that it's the Q. It probably won't seem like enough CPL by the time you get your checks. I worked for them 7 years and they became too big for their britches, lacking in management, communication and kept cutting benefits when I left a few years back. They had me hopping accounts like crazy with impossible, vastly differing client specifics. I am quite capable, but they had me pulling my hair out and all stressed out. I think you'd be much happier at 9.5 somewhere else. Just my opinion.

agree, sounds too good to be true - Kathy

Took early retirement in February because I needed to supplement my MT paycheck! I've been looking for a job and can't find one. 30 years experience. Only want part-time work, but no weekends; I already paid my dues years ago...

Why not give it a try? - exMQer

If you've already retired, what do you have to lose to give it a try? If it doesn't work out, look for something else then. I wouldn't pass up 10.5 cpl or 7 cpl (VR).

I left MQ in 2008 after 10 years there. I was up to 7.75 cpl. My accounts were about 60% VR and I made a decent living. I left because I wanted flexibility and got a better pay offer. The new company I went to ended up getting bought out by one of the big ones (not MQ) and I'm now back to a schedule, although a little more flexible.

It's not like you're giving up something to try this. If it doesn't work out, you can always look elsewhere. Who knows, it might work for you. Good luck!

Retired MT
Jan 28, 2015

I haven't been on this post in years, but decided to check it out.  I used to work for MedQuist/MModal from 2006 to 2012 and in that time the company had gone downhill.  I had to leave due to health problems, but believed the company's irregular and inconsistent rules and regulations contributed to that.  That aside, I want you to know that I always loved being an MT.  It was challenging to learn new things every day, listening to different doctors and doing my best ...

Retired And Not Looking Back
Aug 08, 2013

It has been a month since I retired. No more stress headaches. No more babysitting the computer to get my lines in. It was worth the $200 I lost each month for early retirement. I am still working 3 days a week,21/25 hours but much, much less stress. This is the last time I will be visiting this site. I wish you all good luck in the future. If you enjoy working for MModal then you are lucky. To all those unhappy there, I hope you find a better job and that you are happy. Good luck a ...

Retired 3 Weeks Ago...I Am Free!!! Smg
Mar 12, 2014

After 49-1/2 years in this profession (slavery lately) I decided to retire 6 months earlier than planned.  I really agonized over whether I had made the right decision and wondered if I would miss working. Well, I don't one bit!!   I can now actually sit down and enjoy my morning cupo of jo, I can walk to the bathroom to pee and not run to get back to the KB, no longer have to worry as to whether my timesheet punches are accurate, and most importantly, I don't ...

Retired 10 Working Days Early
Jul 17, 2013

Well, after last thursday night such bad dictators and made no money--so just getting min wage, I finally retired 10 working days early.  So sad when you can make more money working 25 hours a week in a grocery store as a customer service rep, cashier, and working on self-scans.  Such a relief to get away from this company.  Hope you all have a good summer and I am out of here.  ...

Anyone Know Why Semi-private Hospital Rooms Are Still Allowed Under HIPAA?
Oct 06, 2010

I work for one of the big MTSOs, take annual HIPAA training, and know I am subject to fines or discharge for disclosing someone else̢۪s medical info, either intentionally or accidentally such as via an incorrect C/C. I am therefore baffled as to why hospitals are still allowed to put patients in semiprivate rooms where HIPAA rules just seem to go out the window. For example, just yesterday I returned from a 23-hour overnight after an outpatient procedure at a well-regarded acute-care hos ...

Can I Take A Poll? If You Work For A Semi-large To Large Co. SM
Sep 06, 2014

Here in the US, what are you making (without naming names) per line for straight typing and for VR?I see, below, about OTI lowering to 6.5 CPL straight type and I was just recently offered a job at 7 CPL straight type (as an IC).  I thought that was the going rate nowadays for company work.  Am I wrong?  Are there still some out there that pay a decent wage? ...
