Resistance is futile. - adkmt

Am I wrong that the moral thing to do when a buy out is occuring would be to actually give the employees a choice in whether they want to work for the new company?  But of course big business doesn't operate on morals.

You do have a choice... - to quit or not

Moral perhaps, but totally undoable. Employees are - one of the biggest assets being sold. NM

Employees are NOT assets!! - Geesh

[ In Reply To ..]
You will never, EVER find employees listed in the "asset" section of a balance sheet. What you WILL find, however, is the PAYROLL BURDEN listed as a LIABILITY.

Employees are NOT assets and as such as not sold! Rather, the acquiring company may agree via contract to take on the employees for a smooth transition.

You need to take Bookkeeping 101 because you have NO IDEA what you are talking about.

of COURSE you have a choice - not an indentured servant

[ In Reply To ..]
You *ALWAYS* have a choice. If you don't want to work for the purchasing company, then you give your notice and leave. I don't understand those of you who think you have no choices.

I would say contact your local authorities if you're being forced to work for the new company. Yes, I'm being sarcastic. You always have choices in a free country. You are not being forced to work for anyone, just like people are NOT being forced to do voice rec editing at ridiculously low rates.

It's a choice to accept these things and it's called personal responsibility to stand up and do something if you're not happy or satisfied with the situation.

Most jobs are VR now, or a combination. - must me

If you want a job doing MT, most companies do a combination of VR and typing, but more and more is going to editing. You might not have much choice there.

Such a pet peeve-- you DO have a choice. You might not like the consequences of your choices, but ultimately, the CHOICE is yours to accept VR, to accept VR for crap rates, to work for a company who abuses you or misclassifies you, or to work for a company that offers respectable rates and treats you like the asset you are to the company.

What I meant was that the moment the buy out was complete, we were employees of the new company, which was announced in an email saying that we will transition to MModal and that we will get our individual offers, which come in the next day with a choice to click accept or decline. Mulling it over, but in the meantime logging into the same account and working as usual, but the whole time not realizing that we are already working for MModal without having even decided if we want to or having the time to look for another position if we don't. Call me old fashioned, but everyone I have ever known who's place of work changed hands had a little heads up and a chance to work up until a certain date and was given a chance to decide whether they wanted to stay or not. Just sayin.

Even if you do sign up with M*Modal, it doesn't mean - you have to stay there. (sm)

[ In Reply To ..]
I would just go ahead and pretend I intended to stay with them. That way you can keep working, and at least have SOME money coming in while you look for something else. That way you don't have to take the first thing that comes along, if you don't think it's a good fit.

No Notice - Not Good

[ In Reply To ..]
Right, there was no notice, we were just stuck with it, or out of a job.

The letter said that we can't "undecline" once we accept, but I think they meant once they get the ball rolling, there's no stopping. I will quit, though, when I find another job. I intend to keep looking for other work. In this country (so far, anyway), we are free to quit a job.

My plan also. SM - adkmt

[ In Reply To ..]
We have until the 20th to have all the paperwork in anyway. I would be looking harder for a main job, but I'm starting a good paying real IC job next week, and that may pan out into something more, so I want to give that my all and only work on one change at a time. Hopefully enough to live on after paying taxes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Unfortunately, thatdoesn't always happen, especially in the MT world. They don't tell us ahead of time because they are afraid of a mass exodus.

Accentus is hiring, both ambulatory and acute care - sadie

[ In Reply To ..]
I can only speak for the ambulatory side. The pay is fair/comparable to others. Clinic work with, in my experience, really good dictators. Monday thru Friday, flexible schedule as long as your work is kept within TAT. The Team Leads I've worked with (3) are all wonderful, fair, and nice people.

Questions about Accentus. - adkmt

[ In Reply To ..]
Sounds really good. Is it SR or straight transcription, or both? What sort of turn around and how flexible? My biggest issue right now is that next week I'm starting a new IC job directly for a small hospital. It is only going to be a couple of hours a day, but the pay is 16 cents a line. It was going to be perfect because the account I was on at DSG tended to run out during the week and I could have done this when it did, instead of adding a secondary account. I was hoping to get this under my belt, because I haven't worked as an IC before in transcription, then try to find other similar work. Then Monday all hell broke loose with this buy out with MModal. So I'm faced with quitting because of my convictions and finding another pretty much full time job right now, because I can't afford to be without income, or stay with MModal right now while I get this going and find a good fit with something else. If you can tell me a little more about Accentus, I would love it.

Also, what platform do they use? NM - adkmt

Applied but NO response with 20 years experience - Puzzled MT

[ In Reply To ..]
They apparently need people because they keept advertising and asked specifically for Ortho MTs which I have 14 years of experience as well as acute care (currently contract for a hospital)and I applied over a week but did not even get a response. Maybe I have too much experience. It is just frustrating to see the same companies repost openings yet you apply and never hear a word.

Same Here... - Too much experience

[ In Reply To ..]
14 years of all kinds of experience here and I get no reply from most companies. The only response I have gotten so far is from M*Modal. Since nobody seems to want to work for them and nobody seems to want to hire us experienced folks, I figure it might be a good match - tee-hee!

Okay for those of you who applied and it didn't go through, I emailed the person who posted the job on mtjobs the next day to see if they got the application. Her name is Nikka. They didn't get mine either from online and I applied using Google Chrome browser. When I went back and applied in MS Explorer it worked. I got a fast response from Nikka when I emailed her about applying, within 30 minutes. I tested that day, they replied by the next day on the test and I have an interview for tomorrow. Whole process took three days. I have 10+ years experience. So it's probably the browser you applied in that messed up your app.

accentus acute care - anne

I can only speak to the acute care side, where I currently work. They have just hired a new recruiter and are actively hiring. I have several friends who just started. However, it did take several days to a week to hear back due to the overwhelming volume of applications she is getting, according to what I heard. With 20 years' experience, I would say give it a few days, then try again! I have been overall happy here. There are some negatives but it is better than the other big companies, both in pay and benefits!

Be patient, they are smaller and a bit slower. It took me a couple weeks to hear, but I did and am a happy camper. Good things come to those who wait :)

go back for anything!! If your hands are not busy on the keyboard, they will chew you out royally. Yet another company in a very long list of places to stay away from!

accentus acute care - anne

[ In Reply To ..]
Again, I can only speak for the acute care side of things, but I have NEVER had anyone comment on this (hands on keyboard). They do not have a command to put your report on hold, and I have had a few phone calls I HAD to take and had hands off the keyboard up to 15 minutes and they never complained, maybe it depends on your supervisor? I have friends working on other accounts as well and they have never had this happen either.
I was on the acute care side and I really do not - sm

I wasn't saying I didn't believe you, and I am not a manager, I was just stating my experience, and did not know which part you worked in. I'm sorry this happened to you, I had it happen to me when I was with another company and it really made me mad! Sorry you got upset, I was not doubting you, just stating my experience.

I worked there....really? - HappyAccentus

I am sorry, but I seriously doubt this as not once have any of us that I communicate regularly with had this problem and a couple of them probably should have. If you were rejected don't to around bashing the company who rejected you!

My Resistance To Becoming An IC
Feb 25, 2015

Robert Reich describes a "race to the bottom" (see article in the link below). I know some like IC, but for my purposes, all I can see is that I would have to hire some kind of accountant, be responsible for paying all taxes and social security. A lot of headache and extra time, which if you made much more might be worth it, but basically it seems you make the same, even less with some companies. To me it seems if you could get your own clients and get the rate that MTSOs get paid, then THAT wo ...
