Medicare spending has increased because healthcare costs have increased so much since it was passed in 1965 and it costs more to provide coverage for people. We also have a larger elderly population than we did then. We can't have it both ways, and it is not free. Everyone age 65 and over pays Medicare part B premiums, they pull them directly from your Social Security check.
