IMPORTANT: Partial Unemployment -- It's More Than the State Now - Kathy Posted: Apr 7th, 2020 - 9:44 pm In Reply to: Each state has their own rules regarding partial - unemployment. You would have to
IMPORTANT:
This is more than checking with your state now.
First, always maintain that your reduction in work or unemployment is due to Covid-19.
The CARES Act is being administered by the states but is largely funded by the federal government.
They are providing for what your regular unemployment would be plus $600.
You go to your state and fill out the unemployment claim. This will be done online.
Even people without any kind of documentation are being considered for unemployment.
This is unprecedented.
You can use your employment income and any independent contractor employment whether you had a 1099 or not. If you used to dog sit for $75 a month, count that, etc.
The government actually needs you to apply because if people don't keep spending money the economy will collapse.
So go to your state website and apply. They may not have updated their site with the regs.
I'm by no way an expert, so if you're having problems with filing call. Both the states and the federal government want you to have this money.
If you're a relatively low wage earner, you very well may qualify for exactly what you were earning before since you qualify for up to another $600 per week.
