You would need to check with your HR department or employment security in your state, but it is my understanding that when you are on unemployment, you need to enroll in COBRA or provide your own insurance; that is how it was for me several years ago when I was laid off from an MT job. I remember that I looked at private carriers but never needed it because I got called back to work, but the circumstances are different now. By the time everyone figures all this out, hopefully we’ll be back to “normal.”
