Unfortunately, even if you "take matters into your own hands", there is absolutely no guarantee that you will get paid. I had an issue several years ago where I performed work for an MTSO, who never paid me. I took her to small claims court and won the judgement, only to find out that I had to pay another $100 to have the summons delivered to her and there was still no guarantee that she would pay. Really frustrating.
