finder's fee. I was in an online group at the time, and a current employee offered to split the fee with me. I applied, was hired and the fee was paid. The other employee started making excuses about not paying my half, up to and including "My husband didn't mail the check." I finally told HR about her and threatened to report her to the postal inspector. HR actually deducted my share out of her next paycheck and gave it to me. I could be wrong, but this sounds like a 2019 version. Just saying...
BTW, if the expectation is that a new hire only needs to last a month, that's pitiful and a huge expense. They should give that money to their existing MTs.
