I didn't transfer patient data by email. I just used it to communicate occasionally with the office manager and never used patients' full names or any other identifying info, so didn't need encryption on email. You might want to look into a secure FTP (file transfer protocol) program if you are sending sensitive data back and forth. It is made to handle large volumes of data. I don't think email is the best way to do that.
