Is it common to never know what day you're getting paid> - MT

I don't work for a big company. When I send my invoice, I'm never aware of what exact day I'll be receiving my pay. I've never had this happen before so I'm not sure if it's the norm. I'm barely making it as it is and never knowing when I can pay certain bills (which have ended up being late and costing me more), it's quite the challenge. I've asked in the past but never got a solid answer.
