Nuance and MModal have all the money/attorneys in the world (because they are cheap jerks) to promote themselves as cutting edge technology (we know they aren't) and great employers (bs).
Even when reporters take the time to find out the real truth and report it, they too end up dropping the ball and once they get their sensational expose they forget us and move on.
MTs are the unseen, easily overlooked modern day version of Sinclair's Jungle. People think we are ok because we work at home. How could that be so terrible? It isn't like we are toiling in a factory? Well how would they like it if their own home was where they faced the daily torment of declining physical and mental health? Waking up and knowing you will have to log into a day of uncertainty and abuse, frightened to answer your phone or email because Big Brother is going to berate you for something that VR screwed up. You do this job knowing that even if you are correct they will find a way to distort it and make you the victim. There is nothing to feel good about, only the constant threat of metrics, line rates and NJA.
Nobody even knows MTs exist anymore, because everybody believed the lie that VR does all the work. It is so disgusting that the companies that put us out of business with that lie are themselves getting out of the business. After they ruined so many careers and lives, they still won't admit it was a huge lie they covered up by making us "Editors" and now they are abandoning the disaster. They get to move on. What are we left with?
