that transcription existed in order to facilitate coding and thus billing. When transcribed documents proved to be unnecessary for reimbursement, it began to become obsolete.
The notion that transcribed medical records were necessary for safe patient care was always erroneous. They were needed so coding could do a thorough job for maximum reimbursement. The posts from coders in this thread prove that is not true.
