I was laid off, filed for unemployment, and the owner of the company took her sweet time giving the unemployment office any information. I don't know if it's like this in every state (or even if this lady was correct in telling me this), but my caseworker told me the company has 14 business days to respond to their request for information or I get unemployment by default. Thankfully, it didn't come down to that, but it came close.
